What did you think of the movie Mulholland Drive?

I just watched it and it really ticked me off.

I feel like I sat through half of it thinking it was a little obscure but really interesting, with great acting and directing. It definitely has its own style and general foreboding air, and then the second half just made me feel like I was being flushed down a toilet. I'm sure thats what David Lynch wanted us to feel, but at the same time I feel like I just wasted a perfectly good 2 1/2 hours of my life. I'm vaguely familiar with his style, I've seen lost highway before, and it was similar, but the ending seemed a little more meaningful, but equally consternating.

I'm sure you don't really care what I think, and what I really want to know is what you think, so give me your Roger Ebert on this movie.

This movie really annoyed me and p*ssed me off a lot. I'm one of those people that love a good mindf**k, don't get me wrong but I could never get invested with any of the characters. Lynch's attempts at making it somewhat erotic failed massively, he's just as perverted as Darren Aoronfsky is.

People, and critics rushed out to praise this film, with it being ''intelligent" and "clever"- with the notion that something that is so hard to figure out is automatically a masterpiece. It's overlong and straight out trash. Wow... it's the first ''confusing'' movie where after I turned off the tv I actually didn't care for it, proceeded to imdb to give it a 6... sure it's got some great imagery but is it really anything that special? Is there any life in it that was present in Memento, or even Lost Highway?

I found your comment somewhat reassuring in a weird way, even if you disagree with some of my comments- especially about ''flushing down the toilet'' half. It's like your brain is undergoing so much work, but it never feels rewarding once you've figured it all out.

I thought Mulholland Dr. was pretty good. Quirky and certainly difficult to get use to the style of, but eventually you'll see the point of it. Mulholland Dr. was a quirky narrative through the perspective of a woman's regrets, and this fantasy of hers. That is why the film is so strange, it is a fantasy, a thought of what could be before her final decision. It has clues, it has emotions and it has meaning. It may not be the most entertaining film, but I thought it was brilliant. Certainly different. 8/10
