According to the Bible, what are some of the ways that people can glorify God?

We glorify the Lord when our light is shining. The light is the presence of the Holy Spirit in ones life. When we are led by the spirit, we do God's will and that glorifies the Lord. The Holy Spirit glorifies Jesus.

John 16:13-15

13Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

14He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you.

15All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you.

Matthew 5:16-17

16Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

We can glorify the Lord by giving back some of the love he has shown to us such as in Ps. 50:15 and Isa. 61:1-3. He delivers us and puts our lives together and then we have the power to let our lights shine when we help others and are led by the Holy Spirit in it.

Psalm 50:15

15And call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me.

Isaiah 61

1The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;

2To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn;

3To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified.

Our deeds should never be for our self-glorification. Too often people start good deeds with the right intentions, only to fall prey to self-glorification. A good way to counter this is to try to do our good deeds as far as possible in secret. 1 Pet 2:12 tells us how our good deeds can lead other people to glorifying God too. Glorifying God with our words can be through controlling the type and the amount of words we speak. Abusive words also have no place in the kingdom of heaven.

All the glory we give God through our words will be negated by the abusive words that we speak (cf. Jam 3:10). We can imitate Christ by letting gracious words come from our mouths (Lk 4:22). Glorifying God in our thoughts is a beautiful way to build a relationship with God - after all He and He alone knows our every secret though and wouldn’t it be lovely if our secret thoughts (Ps 139:1-2) too glorified Him? We should also glorify God through our work. Not everyone is called to do full-time ministry. Instead in whatever field God has placed us, we can glorify Him and the glorification of God through our work will become an evangelisation in itself.

Whoever loses his life for my sake shall find it. This will be something the person

does, and will bring glory to God. We should also know we did that, because

knowing what I did helps me to do more of that. Not to keep score, which would

ruin the whole thing but to encourage me within to see what I did do and

how I can do more of it.

Otherwise, life is adrift, unaware. Jesus said 'watch' and this word means so much,

but there is watch without, the main thing, but also watch what I am doing.

'You shall know them by their fruits'. To know this, we have to know what

fruits are. Fruits are the end product. They are produced by the tree.

People see them, eat them.

So we will do things that enhance and help others. We will certainly know

when people remove fruit. For example, if I enhance someone, and they

use me to explain their problems, and I help out, then I feel drained.

I don't do that all the time, but as the Spirit leads.

Those that are 'led by the Spirit are the children of God' so when we

are led by the Spirit to do something, then because it is the Spirit,

then we know it will bring glory to God.

The bible talks about how if we help turn someone back from going

the wrong way, how good this is.

The bible talks about speaking 'the truth in agape'...and that can be

very volatile. I know of one Christian who has been hurt in their

past who another Christian pointed something out to me.

Now, this Christian SHOULD have dealt with it rather than pass

it to me. That is saving the life. That is in fact, close to gossip

against the person.

But I doubt this person would 'hear' this, just argue, just be

upset. Doesn't seem 'fruitful'. So I'm not going to do that.

But I will now have to point something out to the other person,

and this person is hurting already.

Actually, I will be able to do this because I know the person better.

So God will be glorified. I say this in the faith I have for this.

The apostle Paul said 'whatever you do, do ALL to the glory of God'

and then when we show our light, we know this, and we know this

light is given to us.

Doing ANYTHING for SELF is carnal, the 'old man'. How do we know?

There's joy in doing it for the Lord. The other way may seem 'in secret'

but it's smug, something to be avoided. It can pay lip service to godliness

and deny the power. I think of Paul talking about all the things God did

THROUGH him, through Paul. It was exciting to Paul to do these things.

So why would he not talk about them. Should he hide it? Yet look what

happened, all those legalists, those Jews who completely

did not join in in this wonderful news. Those were the legalists.

When we do great things, we TALK about it. We never hide it. This

would be hiding our light. We don't do that. Joy then bubbles up

right through our belly as scripture says.

Anytime you do something for Him or in Him name, he gets the glory. Whether you give something up for him, like a bad habit, or whether your just singing a song to say thank you to Him. He loves any kind of praise you give him, and no matter what it is, if it's from your heart, it glorifies Him

In the bible, people contantly sing and dance you give Him glory and honor. They'd make offerings or sacrifices. They would do something kind for someone else. They'd perform hated tasks with joy, becuase they would look at it like a form of glorifying God :)

Mainly I guess would be when Jesus said, " A new commandment I give unto you, that you love one another." Evidently, from what I see of some of the answers, there are many unfortunate folks who have a really hard time with that one.

We glorify God whenever we live as he intends us to live - with divine purpose and being. We also glorify him when we reflect his light throughout our lives. He says that if we love him then we will keep his commandments.

This is for God's children;

Funny how God needs people "glorifying" it...... what's that all about anyway? Is God a little needy perhaps?

Re-painting the many rooms in his mansion for free, being nice to angels and not teasing them about their dresses and building him massive, expensive churches. He loves that most of all. Infinitely excessive, that one.
