What is your opinion on taking nice, traditional names, and making them yewneak?

I just can't fathom why someone would take Jessica, Elizabeth or Allison and spell it Jesykah, Ilisahbeth or Aleighson. What is with this trend of taking a normal names and trying to fit as many Ys in it as possible?

People often say it is to make them more unique, but I don't understand that logic. If you name your child Karaliyne it's name is still Caroline, the only difference is she will be correcting people for the rest of her life, and probably being judged as trashy, too.

So why why why would anyone in their right mind think that is a good idea?

I couldn't agree with you more.

If there are 4 Emily's on the playground and 3 are spelled Emily and 1 is spelled like Emyleigh, when someone yells out Emily, all 4 will come - including the one with the supposedly You-Neek name. Emyleigh is still the name Emily only it's been hacked to pieces, looks illiterately spelled and will cause nothing but spelling issues in life and will probably be a hindrance when it comes to jobs -

I know that if I was down to Emily and Emyleigh for a job, I'd pick Emily every single time. Emyleigh looks like she comes from trash and is probably classless herself.

Selfish parents misspell their kids names. They do it because they want to be different without actually caring about what a misspelled common name will do to a kid. Emyleigh will resent her parents by age 12 when she's had to spell it out for everyone for years and I am sure has had misspelled cards, cakes, etc..

There are certain legit alternatives that I do not mind (Caroline/Carolyn - Elizabeth/Elisabeth - Allison/Allyson) BUT I do agree some people tend to go a little overbored, although personally the worst I've ever seen has been Keightlin, which yes, is pretty unappealing but it's not as bad as what it COULD be. =P

I think for MOST people that go for "yewneak spellings" Don't understand that being creative isn't only limited to illiterate spellings. My cousin is one of those people, she's just not a very creative, thought orriented type person so it's far more difficult for her to see the beauty in -Phillipa Isolde- and easier to see the yew-nick-ess-it-ee(lol yep, I just made a word) in -Jezykuh Aleighson K8-...does that make sense? I hope so

Anyways, I just think for some people it's harder to be "creative" in a good way. Not to be mean or anything =P

Honestly, I've never seen someone go that overbored with alternative spellings(And I went to a highschool ith 1400 students, I've flipped through my year book(s) numerous times and the most out there alternate spelling I've personally come across is Alysiah, and she pronounced her name like Alisha). Besides that, I rarely RARELY see crazy spellings, in real life and online.

Alysiah was never judged or mocked and ridiculed or called trashy just because of spelling of her name. Actually, Y/A! seems to be the only place that actually makes it some sort of big problem. People in real life don't really care what someones name is or how it's spelled.

My parents are both business owners and they've never set aside a resume just because of a persons name or how it's spelled, and I know many employers who would never do that. People nowadays are MUCH more accepting or diversity than some think.

And besides, who are you to judge what is "right minded" and what isn't?

But hey, I guess that's just my opinion, and everyone has their own different ideas and opinions on different matters, we can thank diversity for that.

Oh my gosh, this is even worse than the traditional unique spellings! i'm not a huge fan of adjusting the letters around, then the guy is going to spend their total existence correction spelling.

I think it's because Celebrities are doing it. Aside from that, the world's intellect levels are plummeting, and we've become very customized. Now that we don't have to worry about surviving another day, it's all me-me-me and, of course, because the mummy-to-be loves the names Emilleigh (Emily), Addysyn (Addison), Haiydyn (Hayden) and the like - she MUST give them to her future spawn, regardless of the fact that the poor kids will likely never be able to land decent-paid jobs!

Millicent Bryony is one of my favourite names and a lot of people don't like it. But I don't particularly care what they say considering the fact that most of them say the same thing; "It's tew olddddddd!" - It may be outdated but it still looks fantastic and sophisticated! Which is more than I can say for Emberlynn Shylark Kortlinn-Faiye! DX

Unique can mean many things, but never tasteful...

People are entitled to their opinions and everyone has different likes and dislikes. Just because you don't like something doesn't mean every single other person has to dislike it too, judging someone by a name is childish, I don't think anyone's going to go: oh wow look at the spelling of her name she must be trashy because I think the spelling's trashy.

Ugh, I don't know. I'll link you to my favorite page off my favorite naming website: http://www.namenerds.com/uucn/advice/spelling.html

It deals with the issue of "Euneek" spellings and "How to Make a Kreatyvleigh Spelde Naim." It's pretty funny and spot-on.

It is a natural part of the evolution of language. "Jessica", "Elizabeth", and "Allison"

did not used to be spelled the way you claim is presently "correct." Names are

words. Words change over time; their spellings, their meanings, their uses, their

    status as "trashy" or "proper".

People have all kinds of ideas.

At least in many countries, you can change your name

quite easily. l actually know 2 schoolmates that legally

changed their names, and are much happier
