  • What are some good recent alt/indie/rock bands with female lead singers?

Recent bands please... say from the mid 90s and onwards.

    Something a little like...

    Metric

    Dead Sara

    Blood Red Shoes

    Le Butcherettes

    Band Of Skulls

Ida Maria (not a band but still...)

Even Paramore (don't judge me hahaha :P)

So not all of those bands are alike... I'm just looking for bands with strong lead female vocals with fast paced songs that are a little different (whether they're rock, pop rock, riot grrl... whatever).

P.S, I don't just listen to these bands, so please don't give me a bunch of similar bands with male lead vocals (unless it's like BoS with male and female vocalists) b/c there seems to be so many of them around.

    Thanks!

  • What are some good movies about hostage situations/ kidnappings/ standoffs?

Anything in that vein, whether it's about a person with a bomb in a crowded building, or a one on one captor/victim situation.

Preferably from the last ten years or so.

    Thanks.

  • Word for 'uncomfortableness'?

Is 'Uncomfortableness' a word? I looked it up and it says it is, but it just sounds wrong to me. This is the context I'm trying to use it in:

"Roy refrains from using overly emotive language to describe the darkness, desperation and 'uncomfortableness' of the novel, ...."

  • Artists similar to Johnny Flynn and Laura Marling?

With regards to Laura Marling, I mean her later stuff, on I Speak Because I Can and A Creature I Don't Know. I like Alas, just not as much as her newer stuff.

I also am not a fan of Noah and the Whale or Mumford & Sons (they're alright but I'm not crazy about them).

Thanks. Also don't give me a link to Last.FM or Pandora, I can do that myself.

  • What is your opinion on taking nice, traditional names, and making them yewneak?

I just can't fathom why someone would take Jessica, Elizabeth or Allison and spell it Jesykah, Ilisahbeth or Aleighson. What is with this trend of taking a normal names and trying to fit as many Ys in it as possible?

People often say it is to make them more unique, but I don't understand that logic. If you name your child Karaliyne it's name is still Caroline, the only difference is she will be correcting people for the rest of her life, and probably being judged as trashy, too.

So why why why would anyone in their right mind think that is a good idea?

  • What do you think of the name Mackenzie?

Personally I hate it. It sounds like a masculine last name, I don't understand why anyone would name a little girl this. It seems to be growing in popularity though.

    What about you?
