Since Obama is not your answer, what's your plan to boost the jobs and economy?

RepubliCons and CONservatives don't have any plan. They just want to strip regulations that keep bubbles from building, popping, and sending us into recessions. They just want to cut spending which economists all agree is the WORST thing we can do during a recovery. And they most of all want the president to fail so they can get in and take credit for the jibs that will come in 2013 and on because of his investments in clean energy and such.

Corporations have given me jobs and helped me to get ahead in life. I've never gotten a call from a government official saying, "Here Shaun, I got you a nice-paying job".

Republicans took Congress in 1995-2001 - we had a budget surplus.

Democrats took Congress in 2006 - we had a recession in 2008. Unemployment peaked at 10%

Republicans took the House in 2010 - unemployment went down to 9.1%, and has stalled there since neither Republicans nor Democrats can pass anything.

Obama took office and promised his $800+ billion stimulus would keep unemployment at seven percent. Three years later and there is talk of it climbing back to 10%. Obama thought he would create jobs through infrastructure projects. Guess what, a guy named Herbert Hoover tried that in 1930, and guess what, it didn't work. Then a guy named F.D.R. took office and passed regulations on businesses. They thought the reason the economy tanked was because government just wasn't controlling enough stuff. Well the Depression lagged on for ten years, until World War Two broke out. Then F.D.R. realized all these regulations were holding back businesses, and he began de-regulating. Then the economy took off.

I propose we do the same thing. No infrastructure projects or regulations as a stimulus. Instead, loosen regulations so that American companies can use all the cash they are just sitting on. You hear that American companies are just sitting on piles of cash right, because they don't know what will happen with regulations, taxes, health care, etc? Well if all of a sudden they felt confident that government would not stop them, they would begin using that money, and the economy would take off.

Making corporations a bunch of greedy, evil bad guys does NOT help. You might as well tell them that they are not welcome here, and watch them fly over to China. We need to attract businesses - loosen regulations, perhaps lower taxes, and tell them to come here for business. You are doing the exact opposite. You are telling them they are bad for making money and growing, and calling for increased taxes and increased regulations.

I think you have hit on the question everyone is asking themselves in politics these days. I live in a nice, middle class neighborhood in California where many of the men have been unemployed for over a year now, sometimes two (men who were previously fully employed for 20-30+ years). Some of our neighbors have lost their homes...

People aren't really concerned about efforts. They are concerned with results. If the Democrats don't find a way of getting people back to work (soon) they may lose the next election. In politics it doesn't really matter if you have a better plan when it comes to being reelected in times like these, it just matters that you aren't the guy to take the fall. The President is usually one of the main politicians to take the fall.

I don't know that Obama could have done more than he has done already, but looking at my neighborhood I have to wonder...

Dude, what efforts have been positive? Massive spending that didn't help is not a positive effort.

Schemes that will cause more unemployment and not help the economy (raise taxes) should be "degraded" and bashed. There will NEVER be a "hiring spree" in this economy since Barry's schemes make hiring dangerous. We don't know what he will DO next to small businesses (AKA the rich).

Obama stepped into a huge mess . Yes, and he knew what he was getting into. So stop your complaining about poor Obama.

I agree, he did not cause the problem but he has not helped it much either. But,at least he tried I am willing to give him that.. Perhaps some good will come of him being in office.

the last hiring spree we had was when GWB lowered taxes for every citizen and eliminated them for the poorest(also known as tax cuts for the rich), the result was statistical full employment.

edit: six months is not such a long time when compared with the six years of steady growth, routine record setting stock market reports and the greatest revenues and GDP in our history that we enjoied prior to the republicans losing power in congress.
