How to replace power adapter for electronics?

I have several electronic devices that are either missing power adapters or that I'm not sure which goes to which device. How do I know what power adapter to use with a device. Is it strictly to do with volts/amps and whether or not it fits?

    Read the device label to find out the DC voltage and current rate. Buy adapter output has the same voltage and current rate is the same or higher. Make sure the plug go to the device fit.

    and make sure the polarity of the plug is correct
