Can we challenge people's beliefs...?

Based on the contents of a book they haven't really read? Sure, there are plenty of sociopathic ramblings in the bible, but that's not the point-they have a very small subset of verses that they actually care about. Is it fair to take them to task about verses that they haven't even read? Who are we to say that the entire book counts?

I can challenge whatever the balls I want. It's a free country.

I do think it's fair to challenge someone's beliefs based on parts of the Bible they haven't read, because imo if they were so ~devout~ and ~spiritual~ they'd have read the entire Bible. If you consider yourself a Christian, why would you only adhere to the parts of the Bible you like? If some verses are irrelevant or unimportant, why do they exist?

Sure you can challenge people on what they believe. But like with the sociopathic ramblings as you pointed out or others who "believes no matter what" even if they aren't sociopathic or ramble, you can challenge, but you cannot realistically expect you or the other party(ies) to change positions or view points.

Perhaps the "sociopathic ramblings" are really misinterpretations brought about by a general lack of knowledge on the subjects contained therein? Anotherwords: if the book doesn't make sense in the whole, you probably don't know enough of its background to read it.

Blessings to all, yes we can as long as you are not hurting any one, I'm a christian and i'm not afraid if my belief in Christ has been challenged, no one is going to change my mind, my love and faith in God is what sustain me and guide me in the good and bad times. I will never turned turn my back on my belief o on Christ. This is a free Country, thank God.

    i've read the whole book

and it's all pretty bad but

the first half is so irredeemably terrible i just wouldn't want to try to rehabilitate it

christians tried to and look where that got them

the crusades, witch burnings, all the things the first christians wanted to get rid of.
