What happens to people who lived before the bible was written? ?

That was about a thousand years or a little more. Humans have been alive some 6,000 years while writing is said to be 5,000 years old. Of course, if there were writings before the Flood, none would have survived all the water.

We do know Adam lived 960 years. The gap between Adam and Noah would have only been one generation. So people would have in common knowing both men. Oral histories kept the histories going. Inspired by God's holy spirit would have supplied needed information. Such as what happened before there was life and before human life. Science confirms the order of appearances the Bible speaks of in Genesis, written by Moses. Yet Moses was not out with a pick digging down into the rock as geologists do today. God filled in the blanks for Moses to get things correct.

The Bible wasn't canonized until the 300s. Since the beginning of Judaism and into the beginning of Christianity, there were always manuscripts from different letters and such. Since most couldn't read though, the Gospel was spread through Oral Tradition.
