Is Mcafee anti-virus protection necessary?
I have heard that windows defender is at least as good, and I have that. I also have ad-aware which was also free. I wonder why I need to keep paying for McAfee?

If you decide to remove McAfee, I recommend you use their removal tool:

For three years, I paid for Kaspersky Internet Security. I have nothing but praise for it, but many of the free products have become so good, I decided to take that route. Try downloading the free version of Avast Antivirus. Install it and get updates. Here's a link:

Now download the free version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware (MBAM). Again...install it and get updates. Here's a link:

These two programs won't conflict with one another, so long as you don't try to run them both at the same time.
Hope this helps.

AdAware is not very good, Windows Defender is not good either and McAfee also.
You really need a very good AV, I use only AVG Internet Security, costs a little, gives full protection.

It's not really necessary.
There are plenty of free softwares that work just as well or better.
I personally prefer Microsoft Security Essentials.
