What is wrong with 'humanity' in today's world?

One word; Fear.

Once the global culture started to threaten each other with nuclear annihilation, there was not doubt that fear would become the way people would control each other. Power and fear and paranoia. So where do we go from here?

Well I seen that video to and my first reaction is to say bomb the **** out of the entire country. It was upsetting to the stomach to see that. But then reason grabs hold and I remember that life isn't fair, Life isn't happy, life isn't sad life is just life, horrible things happen like that everyday, that was just captured on video. Our comfortable lifestyle in the west and in Europe has visited untold horrors onto the poor masses of the world but yet we are not giving up our cars, we continue to buy worthless blood diamonds, we continue to buy cheap merchandise at Walmart, allow our country to invade countries for oil but yet not intervene in a genocide taking place in Darfur. Life isn't fair and happiness is not deserved. Life is non judgmental, It does not take sides, peace is not possible for the human race, at least not yet and not for many thousands of years.

If anything the world is much more humane now, but is still ruled by in humane socialists who consider themselves our masters. The dont care about the live stock and use us to our own ends. But there are millions of people out there that open their doors to strangers, help out the sick and tired, rich people that donate much of the money to the less fortunate. You take the good with the bad.

I wouldn't disparage the entire world for the (in)actions of the Chinese, anymore than I would disparage the entire US for the actions of a small % living in the US.

But to answer your question, humanity is too inconvenient for the individual who has to worry about themselves first.

That is, and always has been, the way of the world. So when you encounter someone who actually behaves in a compassionate manner, give blessings for being privileged enough to have encountered such a person.
