When you have a problem with someone, why do they call it having a beef?

    Having a beef is considered something that must be "chewed on for a minute". "What's your beef?" is similar to "Do you have a problem?". When someone has a "beef" with something or someone they are looking to have their problem reviewed or careful analyzed in order to find a solution. It is not one to be taken lightly. Some people refer to the expression as wanting to fight because they are frustrated with their problem and are looking to release that frustration. Similar to "having a bone to pick" because it too requires special attention.
