Is there an easy way to....?
tell the difference between real and man made leather?
I'm hoping to buy myself a jacket, and I definietly want real leather, but I also know, salespeople can smell a "newbie" from a mile away, and will know that I have to believe whatever they say as I don't know much about real leather. I'm trying to learn, so any advice when shopping for a leather coat/jacket would be appreciated. Thanks!

I can give you a recommendation.. I also wanted an awesome leather jacket that will last. I personally went with lamb leather (its black and looks similar to cow leather) but the feel is much softer and more female orientated looking. I highly suggest taking a look at some. I absolutely love mine and I've had it for nearly 3 years now and fits me like a gem.

Actually, if you can turn the clothing to show the wrong side of the 'leather' and it looks like there is a fuzzy-ish backing then it is fake. Real leather should have a shiny-side and matte-side. Also, if you can sniff the item. If it has a strong musky smell then it should be real. Also, the heat test. Leather smells like burning hair and fake-leather just smells like burning plastic.
Hope that helps a bit.

Real leather is tougher and less bendable, they're usually more coarse when you feel them, and it takes awhile to break in. They also have a distinct or strong smell of something. Fake only smells like the store.

On the tags, it will say it, or usually its at least $50 dollars or so.
