What character(s) do you hate?

We all have our fave characters. Characters that we wish we could meet in real life, or write our own versions of how they should have fared.

My question is: What characters do you hate?

So much so that you literally choke on your rage for the their villainy.

*** It has to be based on their character (or lack of), not for poor writing. ****

(*cough*Twilight*cough*)

Mine would be:

* Joffrey from Song of Ice & Fire

He's the first character that literally made me shout with rage at his idiocy/villainy. I really, really wanted to reach into the book and PUNCH him in his stupid face.

(his mother Cersei is a close 2nd, followed by the Freys - all same series)

* Delores Umbridge from HP

She willingly aided Voldemort's forces through her own stupidity, vindictiveness, and obtuseness. She's the type of character, while not an "out and out villain", still tarnishes the soul through her low grade evil pettiness.

Update:

@LilyRT - I hated Ce'Nedra too! I understand she was a spoiled princess, and the author was trying to show how someone would really act if spoiled like that all their lives. But she was such a pill! Even in the Mallorean, when she supposedly "grew up", I still really didn't like her. >:c

Update 2:

edit: also, I really can't stress enough how much I hate Joffrey. I am not a violent person irl, far from it. But the way this character is written, makes me not only want to punch him, but punch him while picturing my fist going through his smarmy face AND OUT THE OTHER SIDE.

Update 3:

@Katiness - it has to be a specific character :D

Delores Umbridge makes my blood boil. She's more infuriating than Bellatrix and Voldemort combined. At least with Bella and Voldemort, you know they're deranged, but Umbridge is a selfish, sneaky, cruel, power-hungry woman with no redeemable qualities whatsoever.

I also can't stand Gale Hawthorne from The Hunger Games. He was such a *jerk*. Peeta was way more sensitive, caring, and honest.

Lucius and Narcissa Malfoy also annoyed me so much. They were able to get away with stuff just because they were rich.

ASSEF FROM KITE RUNNER!!! How could I have forgotten him?? I'm not trying to sound violent, but I wish Amir would have blown his brains out. He was as evil as it gets.

I kind of surprised myself at being so analytical about this question. So, the way I see it is that there are two hates. You hate a character because you're meant to hate them (and therefore the writer's done their job) or you hate them because they're a Mary-Sue/Gary-Stu. Lol, so the first one you hate them for a good reason, and the second for a bad.

    Good hate -

    - Mistress Coyle from The Chaos Walking series.

What a coniving b*tch. Seriously, dude.

    - Dolores Umbridge from HP.

    She's just such a character.

    - Oh, this is a weird one, and I'm not sure if she fits into good hate or bad hate. Tessa from Before I Die.

At first I was like, "Ugh, can she just stop acting this way!" and I *really* disliked her, but then after a while I started to understand why she acted the way she did. It's been the only book to make me cry.

Now I love her character but I didn't at the start.

    Right, bad hate:

    - Zoey Redbird from HON.

    Does it need an explanation?

    - Clary from Mortal Instruments.

    See above.

    - Katniss Everdeen.

Okay, I don't hate her, I just don't like the way she loses some of her character in the third one, it's almost like a different person.

    Nice question xx

Nils Bjurman, that corrupted lawyer from the novel "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" by Stieg Larsson.

That man was getting on my nerves, as he was using Lisbeth with no mercy, sexually abusing her with no shame at all. He uses his position to extort sexual favors from her in return for access to the money from her own financial accounts. I am so glad that Lisbeth ... took great care of him, after two sexual assaults.

Definitely my most favorite part in the book - the scene where Salander attacks Bjurman, tattoos him and blackmails him with the release of a video of him raping her in return for full control of her bank accounts.

    Disgusting bastard >.<

    Dolores Umbridge from "Harry Potter".

Waaah ! Don't even get me started. Stupid, whiny, exasperating. I couldn't even read the book, for the first time in my HP obsession, nor could I watch the movie without .... frowning. Bad, horrible experience !

Annagramma from the novel "A Hat Full of Sky" by Terry Pratchett.

A spoiled kid, she thinks she knows everything around magic and always points to others the mistakes they do when practicing or casting a spell, while she just ... watches, having the feeling of being their superior. Such a slut (sorry about this, I just had to say it :P )!!!

    1) Delores Umbridge (Harry Potter): I F***ING HATE DELORES UMBRIDGE. THAT B*TCHHH

She is the most hatable character ever. Even in the movies. The way she dresses, the way she talks. I wanna choke the life out of that little piece of SH*t!!!

    2) Alexander Hamilton (My history textbook): If you count Alexander Hamilton as a character, I hate him too. He deserved to get shot. That little **** who ruined our country from the beginning with the foundation of the Bank of the United States, as well as the excise tax on whiskey that mainly targeted farmers.

    3) Mildred Montag (Fahrenheit 451): The bad thing about her is that I actually know people like her.

    EDIT:

I know people like Emma Bovary too. It's horrible. And I can't believe people treat her like she's a victim. Her lust for status caused her entire ordeal. Well said, LilyRT.

Thomas Covenant from The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant the Unbeliever. He's the main character, and does some really awful things in the first series.

In the first book he rapes a girl. In the second book his child from that union falls in love with him, and he entertains some rather unsavory thoughts concerning that.

He refuses to help the world that he is in.

He constantly insists on his own powerlessness.

    - Constant whiny ones.

    - Characters who do a lot of bad stuff and are still friends with whole neighbourhood or whatever.

    - The villain where you can just hear their "mwhahaha" laugh and picture them stroking a white cat. So basically poorly developed antagonists.

    - The ones who think they rule the world. Like Clary Fray, strutting around, telling people what to do....I know you said "not the writing" but more than half her dialogue tags were: "She blurted/she muttered/she hissed." I mean, you can just picture the brat right now, can't you?

    - This person finds out they have superpowers and moan about it throughout the whole book. They play the "victim" card. Some superpowers I can understand being annoying and worth moaning about, but when someone has a decent one they feel the need to whinge about it. I'd gladly swap shoes. I hate ungrateful characters.

    Bellatrix Lestrange:

Out of all of the H.P characters she's the one I hate the most! I'll be cheering at the screen when I see the second part of Deathly Hallows on DVD. I grinned like an idiot when Molly Weasley had the duel with her when I was reading the book.

Steward of Gondor from Lord of The Rings (I forget his proper name)

This is mainly based on the movie, but I felt like crying when he had that talk with Faramir:

"When I return I wish you would think better of me, father"

"That depends upon the manner of your return". :'(

I felt so sorry for Faramir at that point. He was a better man than his brother Boromir in my opinion and was a great warrior. I was glad when the Steward got owned by Gandalf. XD

    Coin from The Hunger Games

It was never said for sure in the book, but she was the one would may have sent Prim to the Capitol as Prim was under age. Coin was just as power hungry as Snow and she wasn't too fussed on over she used, just so she got what she wanted

    Snape - Harry Potter

I think Snape is a hero for loving Lily all these years but it was Snape after all who kept giving Sirius sly comments about him sitting around, if it wasn't for Snape, Sirius would still be here

    Rachel Dare - Percy Jackson

I HATE her, she came along and got in between Percy and Annabeth. She even knew Annabeth liked Percy but that didn't stop her from kissing him in book 5 and then in book 6 she was acting all high and mightily and nearly killed Piper

    Teresa - The Maze Runner

I hate her for what she did to Thomas in book 2, she beaten him so badly she nearly killed him and then she started kissing Aris to make Thomas more angry, then she hit him again and dragged him into a gas chamber and pressed the button to gas the room, with Thomas inside. She claims WICKED made her do it, but it was still horrible

    Mine would be:

Stella Kowalski from A Streetcar Named Desire. Her husband rapes her sister yet she chooses to believe her husband and gets her sister sent to a mental asylum, says it all really. She's just a very insipid person who is not willingto do anything that might alter her life in some way.

Dolores Umbridge from Harry Potter. Exactly the same reasons as you, i completley agree :)

Alec D'urberville from Tess of the D'urbervilles. He rapes Tess when she trusted him, Tess then has his baby as a result of the rape yet the baby dies. Then when she finally finds happiness what he did comes back to haunt her making her more miserable than ever.

another vote on dolores from HP. I wanted to reach through the pages and strangle her with my bare hands. i hated her more than voldemort. I think because she actually reminds me of people in my everyday life. I don't meet too many people like voldmort.

Emma Bovary in Madame Bovary. she whines and cheats and just generally destroys everybody's life, including her own, because she can't grow up. she embodies everything that disgusts me in women. I just want to slap her.

CeNedra in The Belgariad (series). Garion is destined to fight a God, and she's his reward?!? she redeems herself a little by raising an army. but primarily, she's selfish, spoiled, loud, short-tempered and really, really irritating. I'd have recommended garion run for it after fighting torak.
