I just finished re-reading (again) the Harry Potter series, I just finished a book called Sugar Queen by Sarah Addison Allen, I finished Blackbird House by Alice Hoffman (and segued into re-reading Practical Magic).

Books that I want to read, but don't know which one to read first after I'm done with my other book:

* Percy Jackson series

* Hunger Games series

* Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter

Give me a suggestion out of this list. :3

I really really liked the silliness in Moe Kare!, especially the chibi and "Lion King" scenes. BUT did not like the uber cliched shoujo drama and story.

** Is there a manga that has the silliness like Moe Kare!! but skips the super cliched sugar-wugary sappiness? **

Luka, because she's older but pretty, and has pink hair. I also love all the artwork for her. Gumi because she's so cute, and her voice is cute too.

We all have our fave characters. Characters that we wish we could meet in real life, or write our own versions of how they should have fared.

My question is: What characters do you hate?

So much so that you literally choke on your rage for the their villainy.

*** It has to be based on their character (or lack of), not for poor writing. ****

Mine would be:

* Joffrey from Song of Ice & Fire

He's the first character that literally made me shout with rage at his idiocy/villainy. I really, really wanted to reach into the book and PUNCH him in his stupid face.

(his mother Cersei is a close 2nd, followed by the Freys - all same series)

* Delores Umbridge from HP

She willingly aided Voldemort's forces through her own stupidity, vindictiveness, and obtuseness. She's the type of character, while not an "out and out villain", still tarnishes the soul through her low grade evil pettiness.

I'm re-reading this, and I just finished my favorite part - the Christmas scene and Harry's first encounter with the Mirror of Erised (and seeing his parents for the first time). ♥

What's your favorite part from this book? :)

Just curious. I know that when I read, it's like watching a movie since I can picture everything.

But I'm curious to see how many answer that have the same experience, or those that read and it's just words on paper/text on a screen.

Personally, I am/was a huge fangirl of Batman: The Animated Series, and the following Batman cartoons really didn't compare to that. I haven't even watched much of Brave and the Bold. But according to wikipedia this new series will *not* focus on the Joker but use other villians, and Batman will have a sidekick named Katana. Also, it will be directed by Glen Murakami.

I'm not sure how I feel about not having the Joker, although I know he's been done to death. (Although if they do use him, I hope they use Mark Hamill)

I'm also not sure about his new sidekick. Meh? Or the artwork.

Does anyone have a link that has more artwork from this upcoming show?

I really miss LKH's early writing style and stories. I was one of the fans that stuck with the books after Narcissus, but I gave up after Bullet - it just became some overdone 70's porn with vampires and weres. I don't mid erotica (I still read paranormal romance), but the story took a back seat to give any excuse for sexy harem time. It's Twilight for adults! (really - think about all the times LKH describes hair and abs! - Nathaniel's, Asher's, JC's, etc..)

I think if LKH did a side story series to AB, kind of a soft reboot, with a different character arc and just concentrated on the gritty supernatural noir (and hired her old editor back), all sorts of fans would come flocking back.

No more harems! It's too distracting, both in the writing and for the characters.

Growing up, my family was very poor and stressed. My parents used to yell and beat (yes beat) my brother and me. My Dad drank a lot, and lost his temper quite a bit. He used to use his belt as punishment and throw us across the room. My own brother, my one family member that faced the same struggles, once snapped and came at me with a butcher knife. I had to lock myself in the bathroom, while he repeatedly stabbed the door and screamed how he hated me and everyone. Admittedly, he had it a bit worse than me because he got into trouble all the time, had ADHD, and always copped an attitude with our parents. (I was the quiet one).

This is just a quick highlight, and my family isn't like that anymore (THANK GOD!), and while all this had happened and very much so affected me and my brother, I forgave them and love them all very much.

But my past has scarred me, and I have a really hard time trusting people and letting them get close. Most days I don't think on it, or let it affect me at all, but sometimes life throws me for a loop, and everything comes back to haunt me.

How do you get over your past and move on?

I'm looking to see if there's a book similar in feel or writing style to "The Last Unicorn" by Peter S Beagle? Or even the writing of Patricia McKillip. Very dreamy, descriptive writing.

I could probably list out everything I've read, but it would be a loooong list. :D

Has anyone else been a super geek and tried to think of how a planet could have 9 years of summer, and longer years of winter?

I'm thinking that the planet has an orbital inclination where it brings it closer to the sun for 9-12 years, then has a wider orbit that has it slightly farther for years and years.
