Any other disappointed Anita Blake fans?

I really miss LKH's early writing style and stories. I was one of the fans that stuck with the books after Narcissus, but I gave up after Bullet - it just became some overdone 70's porn with vampires and weres. I don't mid erotica (I still read paranormal romance), but the story took a back seat to give any excuse for sexy harem time. It's Twilight for adults! (really - think about all the times LKH describes hair and abs! - Nathaniel's, Asher's, JC's, etc..)

I think if LKH did a side story series to AB, kind of a soft reboot, with a different character arc and just concentrated on the gritty supernatural noir (and hired her old editor back), all sorts of fans would come flocking back.

No more harems! It's too distracting, both in the writing and for the characters.

Your thoughts?

hahaha Y! suggested catagory was Soap Operas xD

Entertainment & Music > Television > Soap Operas

Arts & Humanities > Books & Authors

Sports > Tennis

Pregnancy & Parenting > Baby Names

Entertainment & Music > Television > Comedy

Update:

It really is a shame too! Her early books are actually quite decent. Gritty noir murder/mysteries that have believable weres and vampires. It *was* really good. (sigh)

I did enjoy her first six or so book but after that, I haven't bothered. Do I think fans would come flocking back under your stated circumstance? I would. She is actually a descent urban fantasy writer if you remove 90% of the sex.

I read a few Anita Blake books but couldn't really get into them- whereas I absolutely loved the Merry Gentry series. Unfortunately, like you said, the same thing happened in that series- started out great with a good mix of sex to the other components. By the last book I read (not sure if it's the last one she published or not), the sex was ridiculous and unbelievable and was seriously detracting from the story.

It's hard to find a good balance when you're writing paranormal erotica/romance, and I personally can take and like a damned good bit of sex in my stories), but I agree- her writing seemed to change at some point.

Well, typical recent Anita Blake stuff. She gains a new power, has sex, and saves the day. Pretty mundane really. Not as much sex as some books but the plot action is still sorta weak.

I've heard the same thing from multiple people.

I tried to get hold of one of her earlier books, but the local library declined. She's on their list of porn authors. I don't want to read them badly enough to pay money.
