Mormons: How Could A Mere Created Creature Redeem Our Sins?

By your account that God created Jesus, He could have just as easily sent the so-called "brother of Jesus" - Lucifer.

Update:

@phrog - Hebrews 1:6 does not say Jesus was the firstborn of the Father in the spirit.

"For unto which of the angels said he at any time, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee? And again, I will be to him a Father, and he shall be to me a Son?

(6) And again, when he bringeth in the firstbegotten into the world, he saith, And let all the angels of God worship him.

And of the angels he saith, Who maketh his angels spirits, and his ministers a flame of fire.

But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O GOD, is for ever and ever: a scepter of righteousness is the scepter of thy kingdom."

Heb. 1:5-8

God calls Jesus God. A mere creature/man or angel could not redeem the sins of the world.

Also, quoting the Book of Mormon only shows the depth of deception in Mormonism.

Update 2:

@dizneygeek - How can that be offensive to you when your god is a finite man of flesh and bone who is ever evolving (from man) and changing? By your teaching (if you lived well enough) YOU could have died for the sins of the world. THAT is offensive.

Update 3:

(Mormons believe they can become gods themselves.)

Update 4:

@Elsie - no one can "make you feel embarrassed". If you are embarrassed, it's because you choose to be.

Update 5:

@:D - How can you say nothing in your doctrine supports that when Mormonism teaches that God the Father was once a mere mortal man and rose up through the ranks to god-hood? What makes Jesus God (big G) if you yourself (by Mormon teaching) can attain the ranking of god, could then come and die for the sins of the world? You - a mere created creature. Y'all sling words around like "deity" speaking of Jesus when, by Mormon teaching, any Mormon can become deity. Like others here, your words have differentiating meaning, hidden to those who are unaware of the lies on which they are based.

Update 6:

@Publius - you said "He could not have effected the atonement had he been under the burden of sin himself." Christians don't believe Jesus only "atoned" for our sins, but we believe He redeemed us, which everyone here has kept away from saying. Only God in the Flesh could reconcile us to the Father.

"For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him." ~2 Corinthians 5:21

And Hebrews 4:15 " For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin."

"Mere creature?" dude, if you don't believe, that's your business. Don't be offensive to those of us that do believe!

Lucifer wasnt Jesus' brother in that sense at all. We are all created spirits. Jesus was his first born, only begotten in the flesh. Jesus was also the only one willing to perform GODS plan. Lucifers plan basically included taking away all agency and replacing God.

Seems a rather obvious choice, doesnt it?

re: "A mere creature/man or angel could not redeem the sins of the world."

He isnt a MERE anything. He has a body of flesh yes, and his spirit was created. But he is also deity. That is what enabled him to be able to take upon him the sins of every person ever to be born. No "mere" mortal man could have done that. He created this world, and he saved it.

Its interesting how you are trying to make it seem like we see Jesus as just a mere mortal every-guy. Nothing in our doctrine could support that BS. Its not true.

    -----------------------------------------------

Its not JUST about a progression. Jesus was/is Gods ONLY BEGOTTEN SON IN THE FLESH. No one else can claim that, no matter how good they live. What makes him a deity is inherent to his very existence, not just what he "earned". And maybe refrain from calling our beliefs lies until you can show that you understand them.

what exactly is it that you don't understand about 'satan, spiritual brother to all other things created by God just as you and I and mother theresa are spiritual "brother/sister", and Jesus Christ the Only DIVINE BEGOTTEN SON OF GOD.....

Jesus Christ firstborn of the Father in the spirit (Heb. 1:6).

the Only Begotten of the Father in the flesh (John 1:14; 3:16).

Jehovah who under the direction of the Father, created the earth and everything on it (John 1:3, 14). born to the virgin mary at bethlehem, lived a sinless life, and made a perfect atonement for the sins of all mankind by shedding of his blood and giving his life on the cross (Matt. 2:1; 1 Ne. 11:13–33; 3 Ne. 27:13–16).

rose from the dead, thus assuring the eventual resurrection of all mankind. Through Jesus’ atonement and resurrection, those who repent of their sins and obey God’s commandments can live eternally with Jesus and the Father (2 Ne. 9:10–12; 21–22; D&C 76:50–53, 62).

Jesus Christ is the greatest being to be born on this earth. His life is the perfect example of how all mankind should live. All prayers, blessings, and priesthood ordinances should be done in his name. He is the Lord of lords, King of kings, the Creator, the Savior, and the God of the whole earth.

Jesus Christ will come again in power and glory to reign on the earth during the Millennium. At the last day, he will judge all mankind (Alma 11:40–41; JS—M 1).

edit: what does "firstbegotten" mean to you? that's "firstbegotten" not "only begotten" - although He is that as well....it is clearly not what is being spoken of here.

you have obviously gotten it into your head that the LDS think "this" way and you are not willing to listen to them say what it is they really believe..it is too bad. NOWHERE in LDS doctrine is Christ ever called "a mere creature/man or angel".

I provided you with LDS scripture because your question was directed primarily @the LDS. and to show you what the LDS ACTUALLY believe of Jesus the Christ.

Could it be because "with God nothing shall be impossible” (Luke 1:37)?

This kind of reasoning of limiting God, reminds me of those who didn't believe Galileo when he stated that the earth revolved around the Sun, not the other way around.

God never even contemplated sending Lucifer. God didn't send Lucifer because Lucifer was not worthy. There was only ever one choice, Jesus Christ.

It was Lucifer who basically said "I don't like your plan, I have a better one, send me instead". When God said no, Lucifer rebelled, convinced others to rebel and fight against God, was cast out of the presence of God and became Satan.

If you are trying to convince LDS members that we are wrong, taking things out of context isn't going to accomplish anything other than to let us know that you are either very ignorant about our beliefs, just want to argue, or make us feel embarrassed. No matter how you look at it, you can't lift yourself up by bringing others down.

@no one can "make you feel embarrassed". If you are embarrassed, it's because you choose to be.

Again, taking things out of context.

No, Jesus as well as all mankind are eternal. God did not "create" us, he created spiritual bodies, and our mortal bodies. Yes, Jesus and Lucifer as well as all of us are brothers. Jesus, is the greatest of all brothers(or sisters).

I don't know why some of you get all crazy when you think Jesus and Lucifer could be brothers, if they are does that mean you outright reject Jesus?

As opposed to a universe that has no beginning and is part of some God's mind?

Yeah, your myths are much better than theirs.

Keep it up. You entertain the rest of us.
