how to unbrick my ps3?
Well i have come upon a ps3 slim with no hard drive. I went out and got a new hard drive for it, and put it in.
When it boots up, it asks for a media device for firmware, which it should. I have the correct firmware, in the correct folder PS3/UPDATE/PS3UPDAT.PUP.
It says the data is corrupted. I have read that I am SOL if i dont have the original, non-formatted hard drive. Does anyone know how to fix this by myself? (sony charges 100$)

You don't need the original hard drive, people upgrade their PS3s all the time with different drives. You may have to reformat the external device and re-download the firmware and try again. To format the device, try using Fat32Formatter:
