What years did Lake City Ammo produce .30-06?

About five years ago when I was sixteen, my uncle died I got most of his military stuff. In a old sea bag tucked in my grandmother's basement I found some Army uniforms, gear and sleeping bag. At the bottom were casings. I asked my Dad [My dad was military and LEO] what they were and barley glancing over from a five feet away in dim room, he said "probably 7.62 NATO now get back to work". I put them back in and forgot about them until now { Now that Im in the military I need a Sea bag to cram all my worldly possessions into :) }. The Head stamp reads "L C 7 2". I figured Lake City Ammunition 1972. The round looks like .30-06 [I compared the mystery LC round to a .30-06, 7.62x54R and .308] but I don't think the US military was still ordering 30-06 in 1972. My uncle was in Ft. Lost in the Woods in the late 1970s [around 1978 to be specific]. So when did the US Army stop ordering .30-06? What firearm in .30-06 would be still be available in the 1970s in a military base?

Update:

Solidgun- That link say has was good. I got three guys with three guys claiming three different stop dates for .30-06. 1975, 1976, and 1978. One guy did say they were just producing .30-06 for the 1919 at this time. It narrows it down but I thought the 1919 was way out of use at this time. I thought maybe a 1919 for training purposes, more likely I thought a M1 garand some old timer NCO or Officer was holding on too or possible for the NG because they still used M1 garands into the 1970s. Still cool link. Cool to know the last .30-06 was packed for the 1919.

Update 2:

I did some research. The US Military was using M1919 machine during the Vietnam war. They were mounted on helicopter and operated remotely and also mounted on Navy patrol boats.

Update 3:

Not arguing but the link said the M1919s mounted on the boats and birds were .30-06. Which makes sense even tough my uncle was in the Army. I did here about ARVN and occasionally VC used M1 garands.

I figured since he was stationed at Lost in the Woods for a brief period during the late 70s when he was in RA and Lake City Ammo plant is also in Missouri and was in the bag with his newer Army stuff this would make the most sense as when he acquired it. Might have been mixed up or all in one bag at the same time. He was in Vietnam around 72/73. So maybe a "thank God that whirly bird came in and gave us air cover" souvenir but I don't know who much actual fighting US troops were in during 72/73.

I think they stopped production around 1980. Most ammo produced after 1970 or so was match ammo for 30-06 sniper rifles and M1 garands which still saw limited service in Vietnam and was not fully replaced by the M14 and M16 in assorted training camps until around 1970 also.

M1919s were used well into the early years of the Vietnam war, many being re chambered in 7.62x51.

they could artwork. it would want to be positive if there have been some regular expertise about bullets, even with the actuality that. Boattails are known promoting factors yet have 0 benefit in a searching bullet (varminting excepted). The layout is in easy words ballistically major because the bullet slows to the trans-sonic variety, it really is a few distance previous any shot you would take at an elk or deer once you're any type of sportsman in any respect. at the same time as i'm at it, i might want to besides vent on a number of my different puppy peeves on the problem: kinetic potential is likewise completely unimportant or perhaps to a huge degree deceptive. Lighter, speedier bullets look as if they are going to do a more suitable ideal interest, in spite of the indisputable fact that the actual aspects are no matter if the bullet instruments up and penetrates, and alongside with some structure information, sectional density is a tremendous looking good handbook to terminal performance, the position potential tables will lie like a dishonest husband. The experienced adult men are telling you the single hundred eighty's are more suitable ideal, and also you'd have the capacity to inform through correlating the game to the bullet's sectional density. Addendum: each hunter of medium and tremendous sport could shop in recommendations those numbers for sectional density: .30 for risky, thick-skinned sport, .27 for giant sport, .24 for medium sport. those are solid guidelines at the same time as uncertain, even with the actuality that they assume the bullet will enhance precise and preserve more suitable than 2 thirds of its weight. in spite of the indisputable fact that the subsequent length down will regularly do.
