Poll: Will the new retro muscle cars become collectable cars?

The Ford Mustang started the retro muscle car war in 2005. The Dodge Challenger entered the battle in 2008, followed by the Chevy Camaro in 2010. The Mustang GT now boasts 412 hp. The Camaro SS sports 426 hp and the Challenger R/T rumbles in with 376 hp. The 444 hp Mustang Boss 302 ,the 550 hp Shelby GT 500 and the 470 hp Challenger SRT8 are already here. The new 580 hp Camaro ZL1 (can we just call it a Z28?) is coming soon. We now have a full fledged American muscle car war being waged, that rivals the legendary muscle wars of the mid 1960s to the early 1970s. Do you think any of these cars will become collector's items, once the dust settles, the tires stop smoking and this latest horsepower war idles back down to earth? If so, which models will live on in the memories or muscle car collectors? Which car appeals to you the most (if any)?

The problem is, like all mass produced sports cars, that there are too many for them to be collectable at this time unless you can get something as rare as the 1970 Corvette ZL-1 (2 in existence) or any engine option nobody wanted

As for collectability, it will take 30-40 years for them to become proper collectables as anything that have been crashed, modified or used in street races, look at the R32 Skyline GT-R as an example, despite around 44,000 built, the amount of these crashed, modified or used in street races aside being ill treated make up the majority and now many sources state that they are becoming future collectables

Source(s): Tip for making cars more collectable: keep them as original as possible, do not resort to modifying no matter how trivial these are and not forgetting, drive carefully without crashing and don't resort to street races. You will find these go for the best values. I know i want a R32 GT-R but I wouldn't touch 80% of these in the classified with a bargepole

I suppose the Boss 302 with Laguna Seca package is going to be towards the top of the list. Depending on the production figures of the ZL1, and if the Track Pack (possibly listed as the Z28 option) makes it to production in even more limited numbers, I can see it becoming a collectible as well. Dodge doesn't really have any super-premium option for the Challenger. The SRT8 is roughly equivalent to the GT500 in terms of trim level, but it comes closer to the GT in terms of actual performance. They need to produce a limited production model, possibly the SRT10 concept that Dodge teased us with a few years ago. They could charge a steep premium on it, and it would ultimately become a collectible.

that is a activities automobile, and the replaced it with the Scion TC. basically like they did with the Echo>Yaris The Celica's that are 1984 and under ARE collectibles, yet it quite is via the fact they have been the final Celica's to be Rear-Wheelchronic. same with the Carolla's, 1986 distinctly are collectibles, additionally stated via fact the "*8-6". The Celica "80 5 - 89" will replace right into a collectible in yet another 20 extra years, so which you're watching yet another 50 - 60 years for yours to alter right into a collectible. *Collectible - A automobile that may not discovered OR a care that had an somewhat low production value

Of course they will become collectible if civilization lasts long enough. Even the Crosley has those that collect them. The Mustang II also has it following and even the Fiat 850 has its fans.

My pick is the New Boss Mustang, Mustang is the original, everything else is just an imitation.

I just wonder how good aftermarket restoration parts will be for these cars. Will there be enough of a market to supply NOS electronics's to keep them on the road sixty years from now.

Yea I'm sure in 50 years from now the new Mustangs and Camaros will be collectors. Even the ugliest and worst cars in history still have fan bases.

there are two big problems with this. one, these cars will be so over produced that there will be thousands upon thousands of them for years to come. two, they most likely won't last long enough to even be considered as collectible. it may say challenger or camaro on it but it's still a modern disposable car. you can take a dog turd, paint it gold and write valuable on it. it'll still be a worthless piece of dog ****.
