Weird Church experience about the holy spirit taking over your body, I want an explenation.?

Today at my friends church, they were doing this thing were the people would stand in a line and the pastor would speak in tongues and like, sort of push them with "spirit energy" or something at their head, and they would either fall, or act all crazy like they were having a spasm.

Whats with this? I heard that when the holy spirit overtakes you, you should have complete control of your body but what happened here just gave me creeps, can someone explain to me?

The explanation is simple, but hard for some to take. You witnessed a spirit in action, but it was not the Spirit of God.

Yes, the fruit of God's Spirit includes self-control.

You will notice that Jeuss did the OPPOSITE for people.

Those with troubled minds (evil spirits" were left heal;ed and in their right mind.

He & the apostles lifted people up rather than push them over:

Acts 3:7: And he took him by the right hand, and lifted him up: and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength.

Evidently the people you have visited are not discerning what is of man / the flesh and what is of God.

You really should visit one of the FEW churches that operates the gifts and ministries of the Spirit in an orderly way (as detailed for is in 1 Corinthians 14).

    Spirit

Definition: The Hebrew word ru′ach and the Greek pneu′ma, which are often translated “spirit,” have a number of meanings. All of them refer to that which is invisible to human sight and which gives evidence of force in motion. The Hebrew and Greek words are used with reference to (1) wind, (2) the active life-force in earthly creatures, (3) the impelling force that issues from a person’s figurative heart and that causes him to say and do things in a certain way, (4) inspired utterances originating with an invisible source, (5) spirit persons, and (6) God’s active force, or holy spirit.

Luke 4:18, 31-35: “[Jesus read from the scroll of the prophet Isaiah:] ‘Jehovah’s spirit is upon me, because he anointed me to declare good news’ . . . And he went down to Capernaum, a city of Galilee. And he was teaching them on the sabbath; and they were astounded at his way of teaching, because his speech was with authority. Now in the synagogue there was a man with a spirit, an unclean demon, and he shouted with a loud voice . . . But Jesus rebuked it, saying: ‘Be silent, and come out of him.’ So, after throwing the man down in their midst, the demon came out of him without hurting him.” (What gave evidence that Jesus had God’s spirit? The account does not say that he trembled or shouted or moved about in a fervor. Rather, it says he spoke with authority. It is noteworthy, however, that on that occasion a demonic spirit did move a man to shout and fall onto the floor.)

A church, a metronome, repetitive music, and a leader of a group. Apostolic Pentecostals to whomever else claims to have spoke in "toungues", is also admitting to being mass hypnotized. Why do you think you only see it happen when there are large crowds? Believe it or not, religions and cults are two conpletely different things.

:O i dont know but i would stay away from it. what would be the point in doing it? The Holy Spirit is not of such use (im for certain its not even the Holy Spirit!) just, that sounds rediculous and frightening. Yes, you would have control over your body because God gives us our free agency, but Satan can try to control us. :O

It's called a guy speaking gibberish pushing people over, possibly giving them concussions, and then they have a seizure.

    It's called speaking in tongues.
