The Great Depression was the greatest threat. 25 million people were without jobs, people stood in breadlines for food, or else they starved as many did. Nobody had any money to spend so companies shut down because nobody was buying their goods. Banks collapsed and people lost their life-savings Doctors were selling apples on street corners for 5 cents because they had no patients, nobody could afford to go to the doctor. Peoples farms and homes were foreclosed on and many had to camp outside in tents. Tent cities went up all over the nation.
