Does filtering hard water properly protect our kidneys?

We are moving to where there is a well with quite hard water. We have a water filter. We are not interested in having kidney problems. Should we go ahead with the filter, or would we be wiser to use bottled water (which I prefer not to use due to environmental concerns)

I lived in an area where we were one of 2 homes out of several hundred in a huge area that had the hardest water the Culligan Man had come across requiring a small commercial unit. We carried water from a spring (no, not the 1800's this was in the early 1960's) from a nearby Forest Preserve. It was so bad that even with a softener it was undrinkable. It was difficult to even brush your teeth using it. It wasn't until years later that I learned how much water your skin actually consumed while taking a shower or a bath.

At another time I had hard water that was the best water I ever drank

Have the water tested for it's actual composition. It will help you decide if you only soften your drinking water and/or your bathing water. Get a price on bringing in city water. Compare the prices

Your health is important and your kidneys are not your only important organ. Water tables are funny in that you can't assume what is feeding into your water source. You also absolutely cannot trust industry in your area or industry that is and was in your area in the last 50-100 years. I lived near Fisher Body (the car manufacturer) only to allegedly find out years later after it closed and the property was finally being sold that it had been dumping paint products etc in their backyard. Now, I can hope that all those chemicals stayed in a single puddle and didn't leach into ground waters. I could also wonder why my brother, mother, me and all my children have auto immune diseases-in a family that for several generations lived to ripe old ages without them.

Keeping in mind that 100 miles south of me a watch company dumped mercury into the river and surrounding land to get rid of it. Granted it was 75 years ago and the watch company has been long gone. I wonder if the mercury is?? Testing shouldn't be too expensive.

Bottle water is a great alternative while you are figuring out which way you want to go.
