Rebuilding my CD collection?

I need some advice on how to do this.

I am an audio-file and I love my music. I had almost all of my over 1000 cd collection stolen in a break in and I've been re-reimbursed and I want to do this right. Some things to remember, I don't do the download thing. Not paid for, not free, not at all. I want a hard copy of an entire album at the best quality possible. (Are CD's on their way out any time soon?)

Further, I want to make sure I get this done with purpose. Something I was guiding myself towards was to have all the major genres and the defining artists or albums of that genre. (Ex. Country-Outlaw Rock- Johnny Cash- Live at Folksom Prison.... or Rap-Gangster Rap- West Coast - Dr Dre- The Chronic) Suggestions on how to approach this, any lists of music by Genre out there?

I might answer back in a day or two as far as rap goes - I'm just not in the mood to post a list, because I'd end up doing a massive one and it depends how far you want to go with it...

It musn't have been nice to have had so many cds stolen - I have a pretty sizeable collection myself and would be pretty shaken up if that happened to me...

Allmusic guide is a decent site for building collections or getting a short and sweet knowledge of stuff and this list might be helpful is you're looking for a broad outlook
