EMERGENCY Spare Tire difference.?

My girlfriend is out of town. She has a flat tire. Her tire size is 18".

Can she drive, maybe 45-50 minute max, on a 16" spare tire without doing serious damage?

    Yeah. I've done that before. My spare was this tiny little thing and I lived 40 or so minutes away from my work. I also then drove it the next day to the mechanic (another 40min) and everything was fine.
