Some of my CD's work fine in my DVD player or computer, but not in car?

I found a lot of audio CD's. They work fine in my DVD player or computer, but the car CD player rejects them. Most are factory CD's, not DVDs. My player plays some factory CD's well. It otherwise works fine. Are there different formats, or is it just that older CD players aren't compatible with these? (It's a Pioneer DEH-305, I know it's at least 3 years old and not made anymore.)

Update:

EDIT: The stereo didn't come with the car. Is there a recommended one that will play?

I hate to trash the Pioneer after only 6 months, but it only cost $5. I thought it was stolen. I felt lucky it worked at all.
