How on earth do I quit smoking!?

I'm 19. I quit everything else 8 months ago. I've had 2 open heart surgeries. I smoke a pack a day. I get really upset at myself. Smoking is a very infuriating habit, because the addiction is so powerful, but smoking itself really is disgusting when I really think about it. I almost had it 2 months ago. I was down to like 2 smokes a day.

I really need help. Can anyone tell me an effective way? I've never tried before, but the thought of it is scary. I have a very addictive personality, but I'm so done with this habit. I desperately need help, please. It's like when I got sober. I wanted to quit, but I didn't know how. This is different though. All of my friends smoke, and I work. So it's not like I can lock myself in a room for 3 days and go insane like that.

Update:

I have a good reason to stop...my heart. It never was a good enough reason to overpower the addiction. I don't know a better reason than that.

    You have had a rough time haven’t you? Not knowing what you’ve tried perhaps the most permanent way to stop smoking is by negative associative conditioning and being mindful of the health outcome of not giving up. There are of course many products on the market and some people will tell you will-power is the answer.

    You have obviously been through an awful lot of pain and trauma with your operations and if you focus on that fear and the pain then associate it as the definite outcome of the lung disease that will be inflicted upon you if you don’t quit, then you won’t want to smoke. Pick up a cigarette, smell it, feel it and then associate the object with the pain you felt immediately after your operations. Focus on the pain and decide if you really want that object to inflict that pain on you. Every time you crave, feel the pain and focus on the cigarette.

    This takes a lot of patience, practice and focus but it will be a permanent solution unlike many others. It is not psychobabble and does work. Paul McKenna has made a fortune from it and hypnotherapists and psychologists understand the power your mind and these negative associations have upon your behaviour. You have been through so much and I hope you use this or get some other help and support to get you off the cancer sticks, for that is what they really are.

    NHS Direct offer great support and your GP will help you a lot although I’m sure you are sick of the people in the white coats. There are also a lot of support groups so if you cannot master the negative associative conditioning please try those. There are some links in the resource box.

    You have to seek support from your family. I've seen many try and the key is to think of your ties with others. Quit this for your family. If your condition worsens, won't your family get hurt? Would you like to see them sad? Whenever you're itching to get a single puff, think of your family. But take it slow, you need time to fight this, you can't completely get off smoking at once, you'll go crazy.

    did you try the Electronic Cigarette? some people found it very useful

    but If you are very addicted then I'm sorry to tell you that the only way to stop is to lock yourself in a room and make sure some one is with you..keep your mouth busy with something like a nicotine gum or a normal gum..

    what the second person said. find some friends or family members who are willing to help you quit. and if you have the willpower, you can do it. throw out all packs in your possession and just resist the temptation.
