Is it the window motor? Or the switch?

Now, usually electric windows just completely stop working, but this one is still working, slowly.

The window goes up and down all the way, but it can only move about an inch at the time. Like the motor is getting tired. If you help pull the window up or down, it goes a little more distance. I do not hear the motor running when the window stops and you are still pressing the button- it quits at the same time the motor stops running.

This has been going on for about a year now.

Any suggestions on which part or what is wrong? I searched online, but couldn't find anything that talked about my problem.

Thanks in advance!

You need a new window motor. Power window motors have an internal circuit breaker in them. If the motor is drawing too much current the breaker will open up. After the breaker cools off it will allow the window motor to operate again. You could try cleaning and lubricating the window tracks, but I am almost certain you will end up replacing the motor.

Sounds like the lube is getting old and gummed- up. The change in weather doesn't help. The fact the motor moves and stops at end of travel shows the switches are working and the motor is coming on.

Try spraying down between the seal on the inside and the window with Liquid Wrench with Teflon.Hit the motor and that plastic track that works the window. Then,. clean the oil off the glass (when it is rolled up, of course.) Armor All the seals, and around where the window slides, or use furniture polish or silicone spray. They get hard over the summer.

if the window moves some then it,s not the switch. it sounds more like the track is dry. see if you can spray some silicone spray down around the track and let it run down. if the motor moves the window then it,s trying and the switch is not bad or it would not move at all.

    Neither.

Your regulator is the problem here.

Replace the regulator in that door and the problem will go away.

See links for how to replace a regulator:

Stop procrastinating. Take it to an automotive repair shop.
