No! Slughorn is not on Voldemort's side, he's just kind of shallow. he wants to be friends with all the people who can help him, and ignores the others.
"overtaking" just means "catching up to." "Overcoming" would be beating

I actually looked up the line you are referring to...here they are:
And now there were more, even more people storming up the front steps, and Harry saw Charlie Weasley overtaking Horace Slughorn, who was still wearing his emerald pajamas.
it kinda shows clearly that Charlie overtook Slughorn for the race to the great hall! Once in the great hall Slughorn dueled against Voldemort! In the chapter 'The Sacking of Severus Snape' McGornagall warns him to find his true loyalties and he remains on Hogwarts side an helps secure the castle!
Hope I cleared that up! :)

No no no. Horace Slughorn was always on Dumbledores side. I think you got confused and thats fine. I think that by overtaking, Charlie overtook Horace's position duelling someone from the Dark Side.
Enjoy the world's most amazing book published (well its a tie with the Hunger Games)

Proffesor Slughorn was indeed a death eater a prize of Lord voldemort s downfall in the memory of snape s tears in the pensieve snape didn t kill Dumbledore because he asked him to it was because every night in the restrructed section snape and Slughorn would have a little chit chat and slughorn like Kackaroff showed Snape the dark mark and Slughorn would keep using curcio on snape untill he killed albus. However in the battle of Hogwarts he tricked hogwarts kids and staff. Another thing is he trapped Luna saving sirius in the fifth film and he was also was also came out of the dark mark he is goyle s father he ticked people with his color apperation he used Lumos Solem on it. Voldemort forgot Slughorn was a death eater in the first place though. So Slughorn was the bad guy in the sixth film.P.S. I can t wait to see the next film!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm not sure....Slughorn was definatly a 'good guy' so I think you must be mistaken about who he was dueling.
Also, don't think you're dumb for not being able to figure this out! I am an avid reader and I ask questions (though metaphorical) about books all the time!

Horace is a good guy, he is and was never a Death Eater. You're misinterpreting it, love, but Slughorn is definitely good.

I was so surprised by this, I opened my own copy.
It says:
"Voldemort was now dueling McGonagall, Slughorn, and Kingsley all at once, and there was cold hatred in his face as they wove and ducked around him, unable to finish him-"
Not exactly what you're saying now.
