    While a lack in belief in a god does not mean one has to be liberal, I do think that not being bound by the immoral teachings like homosexuality is a sin or you must make everyone you meet believe as we do, I can see why liberalism is a logical choice.

    Some atheists are politically liberal, but many are also conservative and libertarian. Many Christians are also liberals. The lines are not so clearly drawn. Personally I'm a politically liberal Christian.

    The real questions is, why are so many Xians conservative when their Bible clearly pormotes and encourages liberalism;

    Pro 11:25 The liberal soul shall be made fat: and he that watereth shall be watered also himself.

    Isa 32:5 The vile person shall be no more called liberal, nor the churl said [to be] bountiful.

    Isa 32:7-8 (7) The instruments also of the churl [are] evil: he deviseth wicked devices to destroy the poor with lying words, even when the needy speaketh right. (8) But the liberal deviseth liberal things; and by liberal things shall he stand.

    2Cr 9:13 Whiles by the experiment of this ministration they glorify God for your professed subjection unto the gospel of Christ, and for [your] liberal distribution unto them, and unto all [men];

    Not true. I'm socially liberal and fiscally conservative atheist.

    Not all are.

    A friend of mine is a Conservative Republican Atheist.

    Most Atheists may be Liberals because Conservatism is old-fashioned, stubborn, rigid and non-progressive.

    An atheist should be liberal, because they should be open to being persuaded by evidence in front of them. They should not, necessarily, be left-wing, which is what America has apparently decided "Liberal" means. Get your terminology right or don't ask.

    They're not...I know many atheists who are libertarians or conservatives.

    For me, I'm liberal because I feel we have a responsibility to the other people in the world - to care for one another, to protect one another, but not to impose any ideology on others.

    No that's a generalization...It varies on the individual, hence I know many atheists in the USA that are quite conservative.

    Not all atheists are liberals. I know several atheists who are quite conservative.

    I'm of the opinion that anyone labels themselves as either conservative or liberal is absolving themselves of their civic responsibility to make an informed decision.
