If I delete OpenOffice.org on my Mac computer, what happens to those documents?

I have Pages which I prefer. Someone else helping me with a computer issue one day downloaded OpenOffice.org. However, when I save documents created on Pages, and open them at a later time, they almost always open in Open Office instead of as Pages. I'm not sure why that occurs. I want to be rid of Open Office, but don't want to risk losing any documents. Help ?

Uninstalling OpenOffice will not delete any documents. However, you may need another application to open them.

Your documents will remain on your computer, but you won't be able to access them.

Well, as long as they are stored somewhere else other than inside the program...nothing.
