Why would someone be FOR the movie ratings we find on movies in America?

I am writing a paper arguing why the American rating system is a poor standard for parental control. I need reasons why someone would support it.

For: It gives parents an idea of what can be found (nudity, language, gore) and even a 'poor standard' is better then none at all. When your writing your counterargument maybe you can also suggest a better system because people wont want to just do away with it. But its just a school paper so its not all that important if you look at all the angles .

Language - They do keep people feeling 'safe' from dirty language, though to be honest it's something that people will hear throughout their entire life so meh.

Violence - A lot of people think that people are getting a lot more violent, partially due to movies. I can understand this, personally.

Sex - Obviously the American media is filled with sex connotations everywhere you look. So in a sense, they do somewhat 'protect' children.

Because seeing a naked person is more traumatizing than seeing a person being beheaded by a chainsaw.
