how do I find a dog to breed with my weimaraner?

We have a 6 year old Weimaraner female and we would like for her to have a liter. How do we find a boy Weim for her? SHe has AKC papers and I want to breed her with an AKC boy. All i want is one of the puppies - but I understand there is usually a stud fee and choice of the litter.

I can't see to find any one with a boy weim - please help

Update:

Thanks everyone - I get it! SHe's too old. Drat! I really like this dog and I would have wanted one of her puppies. I'll get her fixed.

IF.....after reading all these answers you still want to have your own litter...contact AKC they will give you the names of Weimaraner owners in your area...go from there.

Get a breeder who is willing to help you thru all this.

Just because you dog is AKC registered doesn't mean you shoulkd breed them. At 6 she is to old to be having her first litter. And she want just have one puppy so what would you do with the rest . I assume you would try and sell them but what if they didn't all sell and you were stuck with 2 or more puppies. Resuce centres are already fully with unwanted puppies and dogs and thousand are killed every year and i mean killed as they are perfectly healthy dogs just simple aren't enough homes becauseue of irrespsonible breeding why would you want to add to that. Before breeding you need to have all the gentic health test done by your vet to check she won't pass on any serious health issues to her offspring. Then you need to make sure you have money for emergencies i.e she has problems giving birth and needs a c-section not cheap and what if something happened and she couldn't or wouldn't feed the puppies happens and that mean you handrearing them a full time job 24 hours a day these thing happen If you care about dogs and your dog then don't breeder her and be responsible and get her spayed for her own health and safety.

You shouldn't be breeding a 6 year old Weim. That's WAY to old, especially for her first litter. If you really want a Weim puppy, why don't you just find a good breeder instead of becoming a BYB?

She's far too old to breed now. Also, if you haven't had her health certs done then no one with a registered Weim is going to want their male anywhere near her. She should have been certified at the age of 2, then you could have bred her but honestly it's just too late now.

Breeding her now is like making an over 40 year old woman have a baby.

And what on earth is wrong with getting a weim from a good breeder? all you want out of this is one pup. Guess what? You're still responsible for the rest of the litter. Do you know how to draft a puppy contract and health guarantee? Are you willing to accept the possibility of your ***** dying? Having no litter at all because the mating doesn't take or the pregnancy fails?

You aren't going to find anyone with a healthy breeding quality stud who's going to stud out to a do nothing pet ***** with no health clearances, no titles no decent pedigree to speak of.

If you are contemplating dog breeding, there are certain questions that you will need to ask yourself before proceeding:

•Have I the time to devote to a litter until the puppies are old enough to go to their new homes, which is usually around eight weeks?

•Am I knowledgeable enough to advise new owners about the various aspects of caring for their puppies, including rearing, diet, training and health problems? Can I afford to pay for the recommended health tests for the ***** prior to mating her and, where necessary, her litter?

•Do I know enough to help the ***** during the whelping, if necessary?

•Can I afford to pay for a caesarean should the dam have difficulty whelping the litter?

•Could I cope with a very large litter of, say, 10 or 12 puppies?

•Do I have sufficient knowledge to rear the litter correctly, including on worming, vaccinations and socialisation?

•Would I be able to find good homes for the puppies?

•Am I in a position to take back or re-home any puppies if it becomes necessary?

If you have not been able to say yes to all of the above questions, then dog breeding may not be for you. You may therefore wish to consider having your ***** spayed to prevent unwanted or unplanned pregnancies; your breed club or the breeder of your ***** may be able to provide you with further expert advice.

A 6 year old female dog of any breed is to old to be bred for the first time.

If you want a puppy, rather then killing off your dog why not just find a breeder and buy a new puppy.

At 6 almost anything can happen to old bitches giving birth for the first time.

    Don't be a BYBer.

A reputable breeder would know this. If you want another puppy buy one , It would be cheaper in the long run as raising a litter isn't cheap. There are vet bills for aftercare, puppies shots (two before they leave),cleaning and feeding a litter. health checks on the puppy. (if you don't get them sold at 8 weeks their intake increases regularly). Then more shots for the ones that don't get sold right a way.

You don't, your dog is too old to be having puppies and just because she has AKC papers doesn't mean jack, what conformation titles has she won? What makes you think she is breed worthy? Even if she has titles and is breed worthy, you've missed your window of opportunity, she is much too old.

    GET HER SPAYED.

6 is far to old for a b*tch to be having her first litter.
