Could this AK-47 be stolen at a Pawn Shop?
There is a pawn shop near me that has a very nice rare Romanian Wum-1 AK style rifle but i'm wondering if it could be stolen. I really have no reason I can think this other than the fact a chunk of the wood is chipped off and the rifle is very dirty inside (not rusted or anything just needs a very good cleaning). I really like this rifle but could this rifle be stolen and what would happen if I got pulled over and it was. Would I still be able to keep it after I prove I bought it from a Pawn Shop or would Iose all my money I bought it for.
Jach you dont know what your talking about I live in Texas and they sell semi auto AKs everywhere in gun shops to pawn shops and you don't need a license just fill out a ATF form and your done. I'm buying it legally from the pawn shop and i'll have to fill out that ATF form when i do

When a pawn shop takes in a gun, they are required to call in the numbers to see if it's stolen, they then must leave the firearm out of inventory for 14 days while all police reports come back. After 14 days, if the firearm comes back clean, it can then be placed out in inventory. Pawn shops are heavily regulated, often more oversight is done with them than a regular gunshop where firearms are concerned.
Source(s): and, you are right, Jack doesn't have a clue what's he making up crap about. and another one who doesn't have a clue, ben there is NO registration of firearms in Texas..... - KarleLv 710 years ago
NO it should NOT be stolen....since pawn shops are required to call in serial numbers to police and have them checked...BEFORE they can sell them.....
** that being said i just got back form a round town trip hitting all my pawn shops.....and some lady got arrested last night and gun seized as "Stolen" and she had bought it from pawn shop.....
i was there while they were sorting out the info.....turns out that particular firearm came from a "police auction" in '06 ....and the sheriff department never bothered to "clean " the file so it was still showing stolen from report from '02.......
and that was today at a local pawn shop.....
but in general u will be fine........in that case my bet is that there will be a lawsuit filed against local sheriff dept for negligence......and they will probably get a 10k or so settlement in about 3-5 years......

A pawn shop that sells guns operates like an actual gun store. When stupid people sell there guns to a pawn shop for 1/20th of what they are actually worth the pawn shop has to run the serial through the NICS to see if it was reported.
If it was stolen both you and the pawn broker can legally file suit against the individual who brought it in. It would be kept as evidence but you would eventually get it back.

stolen or not, its not your problem, you filled out the ATF form, if it is stolen its none of your problem.
what the ATF form does is show you purchased this rifle from this store at this date. if it was reported stolen before or after the date, it doesn't matter. that's for the police & ATF to sort out.
* many used guns are dirty & beat up, for some reason sellers don't realize that clean & well cared for guns sell fetch better prices *
its like selling a car. if you sell it all beat up, filthy on the inside, not well maintained, you'll have trouble finding a buyer or anyone who would pay at its blue book price. looks are everything if it looks nice then people will look at it. if it looks well maintained & cared for, people are more likely to believe its a good thing to buy and willing to pay more for it.
Source(s): why its a good idea to buy guns with paperwork. if its hot, stolen, etc, you have the paperwork to back it up you're not involved. if buying guns Face 2 Face transfer (no paperwork) you run the risk of buying a stolen/hot gun and landing yourself in a world of legal pain. - How do you think about the answers? It's possible.
I bought an AK clone from a gun shop 12 years ago, and a year later got a letter from the police that it had been stolen. They caught the guy, he took the detectives to the shop, and guy still had records of my purchase.
Had to turn it over, but at least the gun store refunded me. And he's gotten quite a lot of business from me over the years because of that.

Unlikely, here they are required by State Law to punch the serial number into an online system to check for stolen property, plus they record the ID of the person they got it from. I imagine most states do that. Pawn shops don't want stolen weapons either.

I also live in Texas. Simply put? If, it's out for sale at the pawn? It's not stolen.

I'm sorry for my supposed bad answer, that got 14 thumbs down! But I live in the UK, and do not know the gun licence in texas! I think I have been insulted many times on this question by the asker, and some of the answerers, thank you, and sorry for my 'bad answer' but I do not live in the US
