Would you become a Theist if there was evidence for God?

To me, it seems like a no-brainer, however, it may be that I'm guilty of a gross over-generalization when I said that most Atheists would become theists if they were presented with evidence. So, if you were presented with irrefutable evidence for the existence of God, would you believe that it existed? Personally, I still wouldn't worship such a cruel entity but I would have to accept that which the evidence points to. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=201111...

Thank you for your answers and opinions on this.

Update:

@ King James Bible - A wasp laying eggs in a freshly paralyzed caterpillar so that when the eggs hatch the lava can consume the still living and quite fresh caterpillar. Spend 5 minutes talking with parents that have suffered a cot-death. These are not acts of man or the result of sin. Either God does not exist or he is at best negligent.

For those that ask "Which God?", any, it makes no odds, they are all as improbable as each other. For those that ask "What evidence?" again, doesn't matter, hypothetical evidence that would make you think it was irrefutable evidence of a creator/God e.g. for me, if all the stars were aligned to spell out "Be nice to others." and this could be seen anywhere on the planet and everyone had the understanding to be able to read it, I would find that pretty convincing.

I capitalize "God" and "Atheist" out of habbit, I do not think that a capital G signifies an Abrahamic God any more than it does a Hindu or Viking God.

Pretty much, yeah. If I was presented with evidence a god exists, I would believe a god exists. It would be the only reasonable thing to do.

Similarly, the only reasonable thing to do in the absence of evidence is not to believe.

I wouldn't become a theist because that still presupposes belief rather than fact.

There is also the question of how a superior being claiming to be a god could actually prove they were a god and not just a superior being. God is a very ill defined term for most people that believe in them. As you capitalise it I assume you mean the christian god, in which case it is easy to prove it doesn't exist so I won't be believing in that one.

If I were convinced by the evidence, then "Yes." However, I would have to be very careful that I was not hallucinating. There are a lot of people out there that claim a *personal experience* of God. On the other hand, we are all sort of stuck with our own experiences and our own intelligence. There really isn't much else to rely on when you come right down to it.

Yes, of course, It seems very strange to me that any atheist would not change their mind of being given evidence - that is more theistic thinking related to the importance of faith no matter what. Like you, I would feel very negative about the Abrahamic god if he proved to exist but this would not lead to my pretending he didn't? Where is the sense in that?

    If there was proof sure.

Proof of a good god would be easy. Proof of a tyrant? Well bugger me blue with with cockatoo, that would be a real moral test. Join the resistance then burn in hell, or sell out like a coward, but save your own neck for the long haul? Now that would be a good question.

If there was irrefutable evidence, well then yeah. But, you're right I wouldn't worship a cruel god.

Yes and I have because there is now plenty of evidence to prove the God Yahweh's existence through pages and pages of mistranslated scripture in the first five books of The Bible.

The deity described by the bible still wouldn't be worthy of worship. That entity is no supreme being.

The problem is that your test is not applicable. Do atheists "believe" in morals, art, music, or literature? If you require "evidence" for everything, they you cannot. Please provide evidence to prove that it's wrong to burn down a day care center with 100 kids inside. The scientific method works well for science, but is not applicable to every field.
