A Vietnamese girl says she need USD $8000, is this a scam?

OK, got to know this young and nice-nature female social escort (actually sex worker), working out of Vietnam. Later learned she need to earn USD $8000 within 2 months, because 'family has lost business', 'family need to pay debt' and 'family are not working'. Communication is hard but moderately understandable. She says she would quit prostitution forever after getting $8000.

I know Vietnam is a poor country, why would she need $8000, just to start business or what? She did not really elaborate and gave same answers to my limited vocabulary. She did not mention of any debt till I ask about her situation. I asked more and now she does not reply to my messages.

Can anyone judge whether this is a scam? There are so many sex workers, do each of them need to pay a debt USD $8000 in worth?

What kinds of debt would that be? Can everyone chip in a guess? Is this a scam to take advantage of my kind nature (I treated her a free tour and food around local land; she was so village-like that she's never or hardly ever tasted soft drink before, and knows not English)?

And no, I did not have sex with any sex worker. Just got to know her as friend.

Update:

OK, what happen now is that she told me the 8000 is for her retirement. I said she is lazy. She says when she work here she also has to pay her boss $1K rental, which in fact is true, because the pimp will get much of the commission and they are holding onto the workers' passports. She says forget about the 8000, and says if I like her much, I might as well pay the pimp fee. Now I am waiting for this response.

Please keep in mind I might do this out of pity for this girl, as a special friend of sort, NOT FOR SEX or grooming. I actually, seeing her nature, want to teach her English and stuff.

Anyway if you want to know, she seems a polite, shy and cheerful person.

Do you think she will run away after I pay her the pimp fee?

fools and their money are soon parted, been to vietnam many times and heard so many scams that i could write a book on them.

you sound like a nice kind person, this is the type of person scammers prey on.

DO NOT PART WITH YOUR MONEY, use it to have a nice holiday some place else to forget about her

I am surprised you even have to ask. Just drop by an internet cafe in the "district" and you will see many girls making email after email to various men they have met and befriended. They have various scripts available that range from, (Grand father got hit by a taxi, to My motor bike got stolen. or my mom needs and operation.) seriously. Its like a boiler room of begging. And what blows me away is that guys and even couples respond. It is just a scam and it happens every day.

What I don't understand is why people respond to these things. Would you give a chance encounter $8 grand anywhere else in the world? How about in your own city?

Jesus, I have some land I want to sell you. Water front with permits for a house, dock and bar. Only $10,000.

    its a SCAM!

    I absolutely guarantee it.

Oh yeah, And this simple put upon farm girl Is going to make $8000 for her pimp. Now do you think that the pimp is going to let this girl, who can make him that kind of money, Just walk away?

Pimps don't release good earners. And if you believe that this girl had never had a soft drink before. You deserve what you get.

This is 100% a SCAM. She is telling this same story to 10 other guys at the same time

She is a con woman. I have a friend visiting me right now used to work for the US Embassy in Hanoi and told me she heard this story hundreds of times from American men who had been conned and couldn't get their money back. The Vietnamese police won't help out as it's technically not illegal to ask another person for money, even if they use a fake excuse. The person giving money does so voluntarily so it's a gift.

The average annual income in Vietnam is $1100 so she is asking for 8 years of income.

    Don't fall for this

It's a scam. They know people from North America bring a lot of money when they visit Vietnam. Even pregnant lady's on a bus would pick pocket you even old people would. Anything that is worth a lot, they would do anything to get a hold of their hands on it. They would first be close friends with you and soon after they would be asking things from you and so on. It's a scam. I would know cause I'm Viet.

It may be a true story.

Many girls in this sort of position gets sold into the work by the family because of family's debt. The pimp, or the business who "owns" her does not release her until she works certain amount of money.

Or it could be a complete lie to try and get money out of you.

You be the judge of that, and you do what you think is right.

Scam. Russians, Africans, and other countries have no laws against internet fraud. Avoid trying to meet women there.

If she is an escort, I'd stay clear of giving her any money. This is a scam.
