If one part of a town had a load of chain restaurants...?
If you we're in a certain part of a town or city, where there's like a lot of chain or corporate based restaurant, yet there's only like one or two independent establishments standing lonely and frightened; which place would you more likely to have a meal?
Please use the following factors when you're making any judgments:
Given that both of these (chain or corporate) and independent restaurants offer the similar cuisine and for equally competitive prices.
They both have equally inviting facades and decors, equally attentive service and basically the food standards are very competitive too.

That's a toss-up.
Nationally-known chain eateries carry a reputation, have product liability guarantees via their distributor network, are predictable with regard to their menus, and to a passer-by makes deciding on where to dine easy.
An independent eatery usually doesn't rely on major distributors for most of their products, although some items will be furnished by a distributor. Many lately are following a trend where they will serve organic/locally grown produce, something a chain restaurant can't and won't do. Visiting an independently owned/operated diner supports the local economy more than a chain in that there are no franchise fees for a place that a local businessman built himself from scratch.
Both have downsides. No matter where one goes there's always that risk of sloppy practices, short-handed staff, incompetent management, or all three working in concert. One thing to look for, if it's a Friday or Saturday night and the parking lot isn't full you might want to look for another place.

So basically your saying there is no difference between the 2 restaurants except the name , which would I choose. My normal criteria for picking a restaurant is the automobiles in the lot. The more automobiles , the better the restaurant. - - - Not using my normal selection process but using your constraints. Support the local guy or support the corporate giant ? Do not know.

Absolutely the privately owned place. I hate chains. The food never seems quite right there.

No question, independent restaurant.
Life is too short to eat at chain restaurants.

I would give the little guy my business. The little guy needs the business more and are apt to be more personable & friendly. They would probably remember you the next time you visit and eating a meal in a warm friendly atmosphere means more to me than being one of a million lined up to feed.

Marketing has always shown that people gravitate toward chains, as they are far more a reliable experience.
