Why do dogs chew on wood?
My dogs have plenty of appropriate chew toys & plenty of other toys but today they chewed up the wood on one of the steps in our new house.
We will apply bitter apple spray to this & the other steps, but I am curious about their motivation for this inappropriate chewing. They chewed a window sill at our old house, too. Anyone have any thoughts?

Well, it does depend on what age your dogs are. If they are puppies, they are teething. If they are old, they are bored of there toys that they already have. You know, dogs constantly need new toys to chew. I would buy a no-chew spray, like the sour apple one, only thing is that no-chew spray is a lot better because it tastes like soap to dogs and I know that a dog will eat almost everything it's eyes are set on but this spray is really unattractive to them.

It's the owner that needs to learn how to train the dog, so sending it away to be trained means it will work for the trainer, but when it gets home the owner will probably do everything wrong and the dog will not respond correctly. Learn how to train your dog obedience https://tr.im/chP70
Part of the fun in having a well trained dog is learning to train it correctly yourself. That is also the most rewarding. Some people send dogs away for specialist training, like sheep herding, protection work or gundog training, but even then, that is the lazy way out and good trainers do their own training to get what they want from their own dogs.
However it is always more productive to train your dog under a good instructor, especially if you are not experienced
