I'm a huge RPG fan, should i get a DS/3DS?

I love RPGs, JRPGs, turn based, action, you name it. Doesn't have to be flashy or jaw-dropping graphics. I've been reading that DS is a gold mine when it comes to rpgs, so I have a few questions.

1. Are the RPGson the DS any good or are most of them a generic regurgitation of others?

2. Are there any RPG exclusives that i just have to have if i get one.

3. Never been a huge fan of handhelds - what is your opinion of playing on such a small screen?

4. Portable devices are horrid when it comes to battery life, how long can i expect to play unplugged?

And of course the initial question: Would you recommend getting one?

    1. DS has a pretty good battery life. The lite can last up to 15h (lowest brightness setting) the 3ds can last 3-5 hours maybe longer. It would depend if you are playing a 3DS game or DS game.

    2. Not sure what system exclusive games are there. I can only think of Golden Sun but im sure there are more.

    3. I like handhelds when traveling. I don't usually mine at home unless I got a new game. I was never bothered by the screen size. The only thing that may bug me is the brightness/contract. Sometime when too much sunlight is shining on the screen it can be hard to see.

    4. I'd recommend getting one. Do a bit of research of what games there are that you'd might like and think about how often you'd play it. If you feel that there aren't a lot of games that interest you or that you won't play often then maybe you should spend you cash on something else.

The 3DS doesn't have much exclusive to itself so far, but will play Standard DS games.

It also has is the ability to hook up to a wifi and buy older NES/SNES titles from the 'virtual console' and have them DL to the 3DS. Also many remakes of N64 games are for the 3DS rather than the DS (The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D).

The Normal DS plays the normal DS games, as well as Gameboy Advance games. The Advance games are older and you can really only fine them used now but had even more RPGs than the DS has. You can hook into wifi for multiplayer in some cases but no store access.

RPGs for the DS usually are around the same level as SNES style RPGS. As well as several remakes of classic SNES RPGs. Chrono Trigger for example, which to date is stil one of the best rpgs I've ever played and it's over 15 years old now. The World Ends with You is also a fantastic action RPG for the DS.

As with all consoles you have a mix, some good some bad, but yes, the DS/3DS is the goto platform for hardcore RPGers now.

Currently I'm playing one called Radiant Historia which is a very good JRPG. Professor Layton games are also very good. You would call them Puzzle RPG/Adventures. You also have the Pokemon and Dragon Quest series which now run almost exclusively on the DS's. The DS platform is also heavy on Zelda Titles with the 3/4 top down view of Link to the Past. Plus it has the Advance Wars and Fire Emblem strategy RPG series.

The screen size almost never gives me any trouble on any of the DS models, though if you want a large screen buy your model accordingly (DSxl or 3DS), the only issue I ever have is sun glare, and even then it's not that often.

Nintendo's portables have always been good on battery life. You can easily get 8+ hours of of game play from a single charge, usually longer. The 3DS in particular I've noticed seems to handle battery drain while turned off EXTREMELY well though. I had left mine in the car for nearly 3 weeks, and flipped it on to find the battery was still fully charged.

All DS models have a "standby" mode Which allows you to flip the screen closed and it'll "pause" the system in place so when you open it again you are right where you were (in case you have to stop playing but don't have a save point nearby). The longest I've left this mode is about 18-24 hours, and I still had 1/2 battery power when I got back to it.

Some games also have the ability to go in a "walk about" mode (The World Ends with You), this is like standby but the DS will detect other DS's around it. This can have different results based on the game. Some games will trade items, or give power ups/exp bonuses... I don't recommend using this often, it drains battery power faster than plain standby mode, and while in Japan where almost everyone has a DS and you could easily pass 10 of them on the street because they walk more and have a much highly population density, here in the US you really only want to use it at very large gatherings like sports games and other competition related activities.

I don't know how the 3ds will turn out yet, but the DS had TONS of fantastic RPGs.

And that will likely stay true for the 3ds.

One thing to keep in mind though, most rpgs on ds and 3ds are JRPG (japanese rpgs). Japanese RPG's and Western Rpgs are very different in their style (elder scrolls, mass effect are western - final fantasy, kingdom hearts are japanese). You should take a look at your favorite RPGs and figure out if they are mostly western or japanese.

If most are japanese, definitely get the 3ds, as it plays all ds games and will get a lot of JRPG's in the future.

However, if you prefer western rpgs, like skyrim or mass effect, I'd wait a while to see how many the 3ds ends up getting. the ds never really got any good ones.

Also, while there is a final fantasy coming for 3ds, its not really an rpg, as the combat is all rhythem based.

So if you're a big fan of JRPGs (japanese RPGs) then definitely get the 3ds.

But if you prefer WRPGs (wester RPGs) wait and see how many the 3ds gets.

    hope this helps!

fireplace brand and fireplace brand: Sacred Stones could be what you're finding for, it quite is a very tale pushed attitude RPG. fireplace brand video games frequently have a solid of many characters, each and each with their very own sort of tale, and greater could be discovered by having units refer to a minimum of one yet another on an identical time as struggling with that still cause them to combat greater advantageous collectively. very reminiscent of very final fantasy blended with chess, as positioning is in simple terms as important because of the fact the characters strengths. Pokemon's additionally properly worth a point out, yet who hasn't performed Pokemon?

You can play both DS & 3DS games on the 3DS.

So You Should get the 3DS.

Because you can play music (even with the system close).

You can LOWER the VOLUME of 3D so it does NOT give you headaches for the first time in your life (if you're the kind of person to ever get headaches from 3D, otherwise just turn the 3D all the way up).

And you can also turn the 3D OFF Completely.

And 3D is good for working out your eye muscles & brain to keep them in shape as shown in this link:

    http://www.aoa.org/x17309.xml

And the Nintendo 3DS has downloadable 3D Music videos from today's American music artist which I have already downloaded the 3 free 3D Music Videos to watch anywhere and the 3DS has 3D "Blue Man Group" video and College Humor (in 3D) with the FREE "Nintendo Video" App that you can download (but its 4 3D Videos at a time and they replace them once in a while) and you can download cheap downloadable 3D Apps & 3D games costing from 99 cents to $5.99 and the Nintendo 3DS also has FREE downloadable 3D Apps & 3D Games, which I have already downloaded 3 Free 3D Apps and I have downloaded 2 Free 3D Games and the 3DS has a 3D Camera and I have already used the 3DS 3D Camera to take 3D photos and I have uploaded some of my 3D footage online using the Nintendo 3DS's Web Browser to upload my 3D footage online and I have used my 3DS Web Browser to also download other peoples 3D footage from the Internet on my 3DS Web Browser and I have view all sorts of 3D content on 3D Websites online on my 3DS's Web Browser and I have use my 3DS 3D Camera to play 3D Augmented Reality games as well and it's all in 3D without the Glasses using the 3DS 3D Camera and It has beautiful 3D HD graphics that equal to that of a 3D HD version of Wii Graphics and I have Streamed 3D Videos Online on my 3DS in the eShop and I have also Watch 3D Trailers for upcoming 3D movies coming to Theaters in 3D and I have done all of this in 3D Without the Glasses.

So you can pay $169 for a Nintendo 3DS and buy the greatest Games ever & all in 3D Without the Glasses like Petz Fantasy 3D and Cooking Mama 4 and Nintendogs + cats and Zoo Resort and Cave Story 3D and Kid Icarus and Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7 using the MOTION SENSORS to play the game like if you were turning a real steering wheel to turn the Kart left & right and also play such other 8 GB 3D Games like TheatRhytem Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts 3D and Crush 3D and Shinobi and Animal Crossing and Rodea the Sky Soldier and Michael Jackson: the Experience 3D and Ridge Racer 3D and Super Street Fighter 4 3D and Monster Hunter 4 and Golden Sun 4 and Star Fox 3D and Zelda 3D and Sonic Generations 3D and Tetris 3D and Resident Evil: Revelations and Tekken 3D which also has the 3D Movie Tekken the Movie 3D in it to watch and also play other 8 GB 3D HD games as Spider Man 3D and 100% of the 3DS games are in HD 3D Without the Glasses.

And the 3DS pixel density is MUCH sharper than an average HD TV.

And they're making Angry Birds 3D as a downloadable game.

And the 3DS has DLC (Downloadable Content) like Xbox Live for a bunch of 3DS games to add content to the game later on for Free.

And 1 of the Free 3D Apps I have downloaded was Netflix.

And Netflix is getting 3D Movies in the next few months, so for $169 you can watch 3D movies on the free Netflix App on the 3DS in 3D Without the Glasses.

And 100% of the people who have said that they get headaches from 3D, have said that after up to 1 to 2 weeks of using the 3DS they NO LONGER get headaches anymore and that they now play with the 3D all the way up 100% all the time, non-stop.

But I have never had any problem with the 3D at all, but each person has a different experience with the 3D ON during the first week.

And you can now pay to download 3D & 2D Videos on the 3DS.

And the 3DS is getting Hulu Plus before the end of this year (2011) as a Free downloadable App and Hulu already has 3D Content.

and you can check this Link below for more 3DS Games:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Nintendo_3DS_...

P.S. You will want to check these sites out for the Web Browser's 3D ability:

    http://3dspaint.com/

    http://www.klutz.com/static/nintendo/n3ds_mm9.html

    http://www.instructables.com/3ds/

And the 3DS is getting a Wi-Fi Update this MONTH to RECORD 3D Videos and upload it to YouTube and all of this in the 3DS this Month by hooking your 3DS up to a Wireless Internet Connection like Wi-Fi or your own Home Internet or the Library and so fort during this Month as shown in this Link.
