How is Diamond Brand puppy food?

I have a very small Shih Tzu (under 6 pounds) and she is about 8 months old. The people we purchased her from had her started on Diamond Brand small breed puppy food and that is also what the mother dog was fed. We kept her on that food for a month after we brought her home and then we weaned her off from Diamond and onto Blue Buffalo small breed puppy food. We are now considering changing her back to Diamond but I am not sure if it's really a good alternative. I like Blue Buffalo but the price (even for a small dog) is a bit high. Does anyone use Diamond Brand dog food for their dog and have you had any problems with it or are you satisfied? Is it still a better brand of dog food than most or is it pretty much along the same lines as the cheap dog food? Thanks in advance for your input!

Diamond is KING of the PETFOOD RECALLS and have killed more peoples pets with tainted food

    then any other company.

They make several foods, and we are supposed to trust that they really are putting premium food into their more expensive brands. Yeah right.

I would certainly never trust their cheaper foods.

I am concerned since I feed one of their premium foods- Taste of the Wild. I honestly do not trust this company since they have killed so many pets and the fact that I have to believe some minimum wage factory worker is really seeing that the cheap food isnt put into the higher quality food bags.

I picture a worker with a lesser IQ then Homer Simpson at the switch when its time to go from Diamond cheap food to Diamond Taste of the Wild.

    Diamond Small Breed Puppy Food

  • Depending on which diamond blend it is, Diamond is the very least of which I would ever feed my dogs if I was in a financial pinch. Certain blends (not sure which ones, right now) are equal in quality to the Costco Kirkland Brand which is OK for those in a financial pinch-- I currently feed my dogs a high quality food called Taste of the Wild (I also suppliment with raw meats from time-to-time, but that's beside the point). One bag costs me about $45 and with 6 little dogs, shih tzu and yorkies, it lasts me an entire month. That's less than $10 per month per dog... I buy the 30lb bag. You can get your pup the 15lb bag, which will cost around $25-30 and it will last you about 3 months. That's not too expensive if you ask me, and it's a very high quality food. Hey-- you could even get the 30lb bag, and it would last you at least 6 months--- just keep a good amount of it in the freezer so it doesn't spoil over that amount of time.

    Diamond is not great.

    Read this: http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/dog_food_reviews/sh...

It's rated as a 3-star food out of 6. I always feed either 5 or 6 star food. Look through the website above. Blue Buffalo is like the high end of the bad food. It's not great, but it's definitely better. And, honestly, not expensive... Also, as a little shih tzu, how mcuh can she eat!?

I feed my italian greyhound (12 lbs) Innova Evo food, which is about $25 a bag... it lasts me almost a month. That's not expensive! And my dog is bigger and probably more active than yours. I also buy her wet Innova food to mix, which is more money... but still cheap! Spend more on your dog if you want her to be healthy!
