What is causing no power to an electrical outlet?

My stepsister came for Thanksgiving, plugged in her industrial-strength hair dryer, and fried my electrical system back to a GCFI breaker. It actually blew up the GCFI too, but I replaced that, and now I have power going in to the new GCFI, and power coming out. A lamp works when I plug it into the new GCFI outlet.

Unfortunately, everything downstream of the GCFI is still out. There is no power to the outlet the hair dryer was plugged into, which is either the first or second outlet down from the GCFI. By "no power to the outlet," I mean that everything, even the wiring, to that outlet is dead as can be.

Would there be anything on the happy side of changing the wiring that would fix this? Thanks.

Update:

No other GCFIs anywhere else. All but positive of that. I have a good power reading both hot to ground and hot to white on the load input to the GCFI, and ditto on the wires exiting the GCFI to the other outlets.

Are you 100% certain that there isn't another GFI outlet attached to the one with the outage ! I have 6 GFI outlets in my home... 2 that are connected are bathroom 1 and front porch, another 2 are kitchen north side and basement and the final 2 are back porch and kitchen east side... if either one of a connected set fails or needs resetting, the other won't work either !

not only the black (hot) wire that feeds the GFI coming from your source has to be hooked to the connections marked line , but the white line wire from your source must be on the correct connections or you may have power at the GFI but not beyond
