Instead of water cooling, why didn't Porsche make the new 911 engine a 2 stroke diesel?

By abandonning air cooling, its like Porsche admitted that they were wrong and the rest of their industry was right.

While it may be a challenge, Porsche could prove that they were the worlds best engineers by making a supercharged 2 stroke diesel sports car engine, thoretically this can be done.

Update:

The 2 stroke diesels of the past had a mechanical fuel injection system. This got the job done but did not inject the fuel with precision, so they stank.

With modern computerized direct injection, the diesel will run like an audi race car.

It may surprise some of you, but Porsche has in fact produced Air cooled diesels before...They actually built tractors in the late 50's. My father and I are in the process of restoring a "super" currently. BTW, when it comes to diesels and forced induction, turbocharging is the way to go. To the people that say diesel can't be fast, I dare you to tell that to Audi, as they've been mopping the racetracks with diesel cars for a while now. The biggest problem with diesels is their weight and particulate emissions, and a two stroke simply wouldn't provide a proper power band for a sportscar like the 911.

Times and technology change. Air cooled engines are a thing of the past because the exhaust emissions cannot be controlled to meet modern rules. Porsche has been making liquid cooled engines for more than 30 years, (research Porsche 924/928). Two-stroke diesel engines are also a thing of the past as they are poor candidates for clean emissions.

A two stroke diesel is great. But so is air cooled.

Porsche did not go water cooled because it is better.

Everyone knows air cooled is better.

But the air pollution laws are what they are, even though they actually increase pollution.

Everyone know diesels pollute far less, because soot is relatively harmless compared to the toxic cyanates, formalins, sulfites, etc, that come out of a catalytic converter.

What we need to do is get the laws changed to something that makes sense.

No Porsche buyer is going to plunk down $80K for a two-stroke diesel sports car, no matter how fast it goes. The very idea is humiliating.

Too keep up with laws and technology, Porsche needed to switch to water cooled engines, or else no one would buy their cars anymore.

Also, Diesel can be fast, but never quite as fast or fun as regular gas powered cars.
