simple driving question?

i turned 17 a couple of weeks and have started driving lessons, i know that when you start the car for the first time you should find the biting point, then pull the clutch up, then move away.. but i was just thinking,, when youve stopped at traffic lights, and youve got the handbrake on, before it turns to green, should you find a biting point or just push down with the accelerator and pull the clutch up ? also, how would you pull away faster? just more revs and pulling the clutch up faster? would finding the biting point let you pull away faster? im a little confused, thanks for the help !

Update:

why would you not have the handbrake on ? we have to in lessons

Why would you have the handbrake on at a stop light?

Once you get used to it, you will be able to start from a full stop very easily. It just takes practice.

To answer your question, you should just push down the accelerator and slowly pull up the clutch. It will take longer than you will want until you get used to it. Once you get the 'feel' of your clutch, you'll be able to start just as fast as an automatic transmission car.

To pull away faster, you just hit the gas/pull up the clutch a little faster. This will come with time. Don't worry if you stall out a couple of times. It happens to everyone.

It will all come together when you get a few more lessons Just relax and listen to your instructor. You will learn clutch control very fast as it is the main control for stopping and starting.
