Could the taliban defeat us?

They defeated the Russians who were a super power back then.

Apparently the guys who were fighting us in Iraq have withdrawn into the mountains, where our tanks can't go in after them.

It is just a matter of time until America finds that this war costs more money than they can afford, and then we will give up.

Well sure - the Afghan War was lost the day Baby Bush put us in there. It doesn't matter how many of these people we kill - they're still there - and we're bleeding ourselves white chasing them around.

The Afghan War was started to shovel money into Bush's Billionaire friends - and that's what's happened. The US has already lost the war - but the Billionaires won - they always do.

No, the Taliban does not have the means to defeat the US military. What they might be able to do is overthrow the weak sorry excuse of a government in Afghanistan. I don't like to be negative but from what I see coming out of Kabul, the second that US forces leave the Taliban will most likely assume control of the Afghan government. Our mission in Afghanistan was first and foremost to remove Al Qeada and Osama Bin Laden. We accomplished that goal and the only reason that we continue to fight is with the hopes that we can give the Afghan government a chance to stay in power after we leave because they are more likely to prevent a future Al Qeada from operating in Afghanistan in the future. Another reason why we are more likely to be successful is because we have worked very hard to help the people and make the war less about body count of dead enemy fighters. This is where we went wrong in Vietnam and where the Russians went wrong when they were in Afghanistan. Our ultimate goal is to create an environment in Afghanistan that does not want terrorist back and a government who is backed by the people in support of this goal. All Afghanis win if we are successful.

    face-palm

    1) The Taliban did not exist during the Soviet-Afghan war. The Soviets were fighting the Mujahideen. The Muj were trained, funded, and supplied by the US government. Basically we did to the Soviets in Afghanistan what they did to us in Vietnam.

    2) Iraq and Afghanistan were two completely different wars with different objectives and different enemies. There were never any Taliban in Iraq. And we have never used tanks in Afghanistan as the whole place is pretty much one giant mountain range.

So no the Taliban can not defeat us in open conflict. The only thing they can do is conducting a holding action and out-last us. However, openly putting out withdrawal dates from our government to the international community only furthers their resolve. They know that if they can just hang on for a couple more years, they can regain their power as we pull out.

    1. There are no Taliban in Iraq.

    2. The Taliban beat the Russians because America supplied them with state-of-the-art weapons to destroy Russian tanks and helicopters and gave them CIA training. Before America stepped into to supply the Afghans, the Russians were completely unstoppable.

    3. We dont need tanks to go after them in the mountains. We have Satellites, drones, cruise missiles, fighter jets, and helicopters that are just as efficient, as tanks.

1400 isn't precisely precise. we were battling a variety of of communities all around the middle East for extremely very nearly 10 years now and characteristic annihilated a large type of terrorist cells. The Taliban in certain has suffered losses they'll in no way get over and our persevered presence on their former turf truly a lot guarantees they couldn't regroup any time quickly.

It's Afghanistan where the mountain fighting is. The taliban couldn't defeat us militarily, but they can try to out wait us.
