Figure Skaters: What are your other interests?

I think the question is pretty self-explainitory. It's just something I'm curious about, since I love skating, but I also have a passion for Rhythmic Gymnastics and AGG, and when I'm not on the ice or at school, I'm in the gym. My AGG group just found out we're going to a huge competition in Bulgaria in April (don't ask how I have time to train for that. Let's just say I have no social life, or really any life at all), so that got me thinking about what other skaters might do, either for fun, for cross training, or for whatever reason. RG started out as my cross training, but then I started to enjoy it on a more competitive level. Then the head of the club wanted an AGG team, and I got shuffled onto it. I get exempt from Ballet twice a week like the rest of my group because of Figure Skating.

So yeah... :)

Rhythmic Gymnastics sounds really fun! I was in regular gymnastics recreationally from when I was 5 until I was 13. I stopped because I fell on my head on the beam doing a back tuck (cracked it open). Then, after I recovered, I went back to gymnastics. That turned out to be a horrible decision because a couple months later I broke my arm. On the beam. On the same beam. On the same END of the same beam! Only I was doing a branny (no-armed roundoff) off the end. Anyways that's my gymnastics story. I would still be doing it if I didn't have to do beam!

Currently, my other big sport is soccer. I got into it during my first year of high school (I'm in my 3rd year of high school right now), found out I was actually kind of good, and took off in that sport. I absolutely love soccer. I play for my school's varsity team during the spring and I do club soccer in the fall.

I also ski. I've skied since I was 6, just recreationally. I'm pretty good at it though. This year, I'm joining a ski team through my school, so I'll be racing. It'll be new, but I'm pretty excited!

And I'm on my school's yearbook committee. And I've played piano since I was 5 (so 10 and a half years). And I'm in my church's choir. And I teach Sunday School. And I try to have a decent social life, but it's so hard fitting it in around my schedule.

So anyways I'm a pretty busy person. But I would be REALLY bored if I wasn't (you probably understand that). I can't wait until I turn 16 and I get my license in January. It will be so much easier for me to fit everything without having to rely on my mom to drive me places.

    Good question! :)

Well I don't really have a life either, it sounds like none of us do other than some social time with other skaters, so we gotta stick together

I do ballet, weight training, conditioning, and yoga/pilates all for skating. My parents have me do musicals once a year... I unfortunately always get the lead and have to shuffle skating around in order to do it. I've been a member of the cleveland orchestra childrens chorus (rehearse monday evenings or more if a concert at severence hall is soon). I also play piano (lessons on wednesdays) and babysit (after skating wednesday mornings before piano). On the very rare occasions where I am not skating (like a day or two off after regionals) or sleeping from exhaustion, I like shopping and fashion/ cosmetics. I am obsessed with spa things and home remedies and treating your body well organicly. I am also a neat freak crazy over organization and cleanliness. Crafty things also interest me. Education wise, I am home-schooled just this year to cater to my busy schedule and in honors classes. Really I have a lot more interest (these are just some of the tops) skating just dominates my life and any time I would have to do these things. Yaaa, thats bout it :)

Well right now I don't have time for much other than skating, coaching, school, and homework. Otherwise though, I've played on summer soccer teams since I was 5 (2011 provincial champs, yeaah!), and started playing high school this year.

At school I'm on the prom committee, which is pretty awesome. Starts after March break with planning and stuff.

Outside of the rink and school... well, I can't say I don't love a good book. And I've recently taken up photography too. Not in classes or anything, pretty much just going out, then point and shoot.

My parents say I have the busiest schedule. I disagree. I'm actually pretty used to it... I'm just going to name all the things on a weekly basis.

Figure Skating: 6 days a week, about 1 hour and 30 minutes each day, Mon, Wed, Fri, in the mornings 5:45-7:20am, Tue and Thur, in the afternoon after school 3:30-5:15pm

Ballet: 2 days a week, Mon and Wed 5-6pm

    Chess: 1 day a week, Fri 6-7:30pm

Russian Class: 1 day a week, Sat 1:30-3:00pm

I used to do Gymnastics to help with my flexibility for a year but then my coach had a baby and I lost touch with her and it was a bit $costly$

I don't think it's THAT busy... is it?

  • I love all forms of gymnastics and dance. I have a little background in artistic gymnastics, but my parents didn't really support it because they were afraid I was going to break my neck and kill myself. I used to take a weekly ballet class but quit to concentrate more on skating. I'd love to learn ballroom dance as well, but that's on the back burner because right now skating and work already wear me out and it's something that I can still learn when I'm older. I'd also like to get into yoga, but once again, not enough time or energy. My nonphysical activities and interests include drawing, painting (mainly watercolor), needlework (cross stitch, embroidery, knit, crochet) and sewing. I play the violin as well although haven't done so in awhile because my bow needs to be rehaired and I haven't gotten around to it yet.

:) good answers everyone, well, to answer the question, I do ballet and yoga, but recently i've got into rhythmic gymnastics, and got back into freestyle disco dance (it is not very well known in the US but back in the UK its pretty well known!) also like most others have already said, I basically have no life juggling skating, dance, gymnastics, school etc. Most of my friends are from skating and at my school there is a lot of skaters ( actually quite mean ones and they follow the 'leader' about everywhere) , but I basically stick with my own friends, because they are nicer, and it sucks to be in a clique! sorry! i'm wandering off topic.

But to stay on topic, at school I do soccer and a glee club. and at home I knit!

( sorry for it being quite random)

Well, I am in French club at school. I plan on doing student council next year, gotta get some extracurriculars in my transcript! I also plan on taking Journalism next year, which is the online newspaper and broadcast class for my school, I want to get into editing for the broadcast or writing for the online newspaper. I have gym class at school right now so I'm not exercising like I normally would, but typically I like to go for runs in all my free time... Haha that doesn't exist! I run either on the treadmill in my basement or around my neighborhood. Sometimes I go for bike rides in the summer since there's a really nice lake near my house with a bunch of trails around it. I don't go on the trails there when I run though because it gets crowded and its not as safe. Plus my dad bikes with me, but he has ankle problems and can't run anymore. I take a ballet class for skaters on Saturdays for an hour, and I'm trying to get my mom to let me start ballet another day, not just a class for skaters, just a normal ballet class. I would like to try RG, but I don't know of anywhere near me that teaches it, and I've asked a few of my friends who are artistic gymnasts, and none of them know of any RG places around here. Another hobby I do is crocheting, its just my relaxing tool. I don't crochet often, mostly when I just need to chill out and relax, like I did some crocheting yesterday. Does shopping count as a hobby? It's certainly an interest... Also, I make YouTube videos about like makeup and fashion, that's sort of a hobby I guess.

That's it! I have a lot of interests and other activities.

Well, When I'm off the ice, I obviously go to school and try hard to get good grades. I love my family, friends and pets (many lol). I have loved art since I first picked up a crayon. Now I have been working on drawing people, and occasionally anime or skating dress designs or animals. I also work out in the gym a lot. yehh.

I don't really have many other interests other than skating. I have no social life whatsoever (unless you count talking to my friends at school, but doesn't really extend beyond there). Most of my time is dedicated to schoolwork.

If you'd call it an interest, I am a HUGE Harry Potter fan. I love constantly rereading the books, watching the movies, discussing it on forums, and collecting Harry Potter merchandise (I like to refer to this as "Harry-Pottering" :D).

I also like reading and writing when I have time. I don't do any other sports, other than off-ice training. I also like video and photo editing. I also learn Italian which I practise a lot. Like I said before, most of my spare time is devoted to studying - in fact, I think I study a bit too much. :P

This is one of the things I love about skating - how all us skaters are so different, yet we're all united because of one common interest. <3

Up until recently I did gymnastics, ballet and jazz as well as skating but then I quit so I could focus more on skating. I think they helped with my skating though. I do a lot of off ice now.
