Why most atheists liberal?

b/c the liberal god is the government

It is an interesting question. Atheists are often accused of being socialists, while republican christians embrace social darwinism. You would think the christians would do as Jesus said and eschew material wealth and the atheists would go in for the survival of the fittest.

I think most atheists lean toward the left because they look to the future and a scientific mindset. We can make a better world for our children. We only have this one life and we should do all we can to improve it for everyone. Christians have an afterlife to look forward to, this world is only an obstacle in their path. Coupling that with the dogma that they are forgiven for any sin just by accepting Jesus, they are free to brutalize and abuse anyone they please.

As an aside to some crazyness here, the bible does not say "god helps those who help themselves". It is not in the bible anywhere. The bible does say "Ask and you shall receive." Matthew 7:7. Sounds like a handout to me.

Cause and effect break down at the subatomic level. Quarks and electrons pop in and out all the time. The cause, if there is one, of the big bang is unknown at this time. That kind of mystery is what makes science fun. There is no easy answer written down from folk tales of ancient shepherds, we have to actually do the work.

Well a big part of the Republican party today is comprised of religious conservatives whose views on issues like abortion and gay marriage stem primarily from Christian views. That said, as others have noted, many Catholics and Jews are Democrats. For example, I live in an area that is heavily white ethnic Catholic (myself included), and many if not most of us vote Democrat, regardless of how practicing we are. I personally consider myself more of an agnostic type but I'm from that background, and I vote Democrat.

Because the same type of personality profile the accepts to corruption and control of organized religion is also more likely to support the war on drugs, the wars in the middle East, the "patriot" act, etc. The same personality types that listen to televangelists also consider Fox News to be objective news reporting and believe everything they see on Fox news. Both religion and conservatism are based upon talking points, lies, brainwashing, and no facts logic or reasoning so the same personality types that are attracted to religion are also attracted to the Tea Party.

colbert is a devout catholic who is active in his church and even taught sunday school for a very long time. stewart is jewish. Don't be stupid.

To the OP - I would assume it is based on two

1. conservatives base most of their political agenda on what matches with christian faith and christian beliefs.

2. a lot of people don't know anything about any other parties besides democrat/republican and aren't interested in finding out. libertarian doesn't even come up in political arguments or debates where I live.

I never saw any documented proof that what you propose is true. Personally when the term "atheist" comes up it creates vivid pictures of very arrogant and stupid people who are so audacious that they think a belief in a higher power is illogical.Bill Maher immediately comes to mind along with other such genius minds as Letterman,Colbert,and Stewart. Here..the Basic Logic of cause and effect..>.....There can be NO effect without a cause..

Examples for the unlearned...effect-a rolling ball..the cause?...some force set it into motion. effect- a student fails a college class..> the cause?..he/she in some manner did not conform to the class standard/s.

effect-the existence of the earth and its inhabitants ..> the cause...??? In what fashion do you argue? The atheist argues ..it just..happened..happened without any cause..negative..false..illogical..there HAD to be something that caused for the earth's existence and inhabitants. If you claim there wasn't you defy the laws of logic.

Atheists claim there was no cause..If you argue it was created by the Big Bang then what caused the Big Bang?

If you notionally equate "liberal" and "Democrat," then you will find that Catholics and Jews, far from being atheistic, typically vote Democrat.

Because most things that republicans are against really just have to do with christian morals.. Like abortion, homosexual women and men.. Because if there was no God what would be the point of telling a woman she couldn't abort a child, or tell two men they can't be together?

Liberals are more given to independent thought than conservatives.

Libertarians are better than conservatives, in that they are more principled. However, libertarianism is a bit simplistic. The fact is that, for the society that best suits most people, citizens should be given a great deal of freedom, but be constrained from engaging in acts that injure others.
