Good Cardio And Full Body Workout DVDs?

First off, let me say that I am a beginner at excercising. I'm no athlete, haven't worked out a day in my life, have no expirience working out, none of that. And yes, I am overweight.

I want a workout that will help me not only lose weight, but tone and tighten my arms, belly, legs, butt, thighs, and basically my whole body while working various parts of my body.

The problem is that everytime I go to buy a DVD from Amazon (Yes I buy from Amazon. I want to buy seperate DVDs, not packages like Turbo Jam Maximum Results Kit for example) there is always a problem with the reviewers.

I've been through many workout instructers, including Jillian Michaels and Shiva Rea(?) and the reviewers always seem to have something negative to say about EVERYONE no matter how much the person from another review reccommended the instructor after complaning about the current DVD.

Now don't get me wrong, I love to read the 3 and below star reviews because it helps me decide wether or not to buy the product, but like I said before, the reviewers complain no matter what.

Most often everyone says that the instructor talks too much, or the music sucks, the moves are dangerous/ not safe, the reps are all off, the moves are actually for more advanced people, the instructor goes too fast or doesn't properly explain the moves. Things like that.

Sucky music and too much talking don't bother me. I can just press mute. But I do have a problem with all the above reasons. So I am stuck between a rock and a hard place. Please, I really want to get in shape, honestly, and it's sad that the only thing holding me back is what DVD to buy.

So can you please recommend me a fitness DVD or instructor? Please also list the pros and cons of the DVD along with any other info that would be important. Thank you in advance.

Btw I know that to lose weight I also have to drink lots of water, eat as many fruits and veggies as I want, and control my portions.

The problem with reviewers is that no one likes or looks for the same things in a DVD as another person. For example, I found the guy who does P90X very annoying so didn't purchase it, but others seems to love him. I've done several DVD programs and will share my opinions. Try E-bay to get different DVD's. You can sometimes get great deals. I've gotten most of my exercise DVD's there.

Continuing with P90X: Some of his form cues seemed off, late, or non-existent. People are getting good results with the program though there are reports of injuries from improper form. The X stands for extreme workout. Power 90 is the less intense version.

30 Day Shred from Julian Michaels and found her to be pretty good with form cues. The music is basic workout music. Good variety of moves for a total body cardio and strength workout program. It's cheap and only 30 days so may be a good program to begin with.

Turbo Jam: I love it! I have both the basic Maximum Results and Fat Blaster packages. Lots of variety in the different workouts. I have a total of 8 Turbo Jam DVDs, so I can usually find a routine to fit any mood or available time. Sometimes you can find individual DVD's on E-bay if you don't want to full package. Her form cues are very good. The music is energetic. Once you get used to the moves, they are fun. It does take some coordination at first though. Since it is cardio kickboxing, it improves not only your cardio, but also balance and coordination.

Turbo Fire: I haven't made it though yet. It's more intense than Turbo Jam and has a 16 week schedule to follow. However, there is a modified schedule for beginners to do before doing the regular schedule. The package includes one of the best nutrition guides I've seen outside my nutrition class. I bought it on E-bay and got a great deal (1/2 price including shipping).

Slim in 6: Good for beginners and mid-level who want structured routines. Music isn't that great. Pretty good form cues but she looses count occasionally. Overall, it has good routines with a mix of cardio, strength, and flexibility, but not much variety of routines. There are 3 routines and you do each routine for 2 weeks.

Rockin' Body: Rather lame and corny, except the ab routine. Music is bad remixes that fall short. Fairly good form cues. Fair amount of wasted time standing around between segments, slow paced. Glad I didn't pay full price.
