can you believe in evolution and also christianity?

Yes, it's true, things evolve, that's not non-Christian at all. Survival of the fittest, also not non-Christian.
The only non-Christian parts of evolution are the big bang theory and human evolution from apes. You must believe in creation if you want to be Christian, not to say you can't believe many parts of evolution also. Also, God made humans to be set apart, to have salvation, unlike animals which don't; you must believe that also.
There are some people that claim Christianity that believe that God used the big bang theory and other parts of evolutionary theory to make the world. That is called deism, what most of the founding fathers were. It denies a personal relationship with God. However, there is creationism in that, because God used it.

I'd like to applaud Festus' answer...I don't think there's a whole lot else to add to it.
The belief that God created humans and animals through the process of evolution is called "Theistic Evolution," or sometimes "Evolutionary Theism."

Certainly. The thing is even though man evolves over time (just look at the changes in our shape and sizes throughout comparatively modern history) - that doesn't necessarily mean we descended from apes, or earlier, salamanders.
There's still much to learn - religion tells us the why, science tells us the how (as far as they understand it) - we haven't always known about quarks. There's much more to discover.

Yes you can. If you are Christian, you don't have to be a creationist. Many Christians are not (look up Kenneth Miller).
And even if you are a creationist, creationism isn't actually opposed to evolution. It just says "God did it". It doesn't say how he did it, so he could very well have used evolution as a means to creation.

I am sure that one could 'believe in' both, but believing in Christianity is not what makes one a Christian.
God bless
