Differences between Italian Greyhound and Whippet?

We are thinking of getting either but want to know the difference between each, pros- cons and any experience with these breeds? Thanks

Update:

Maybe do some research before answering- Italian greyhound are SMALLER than whippets. The Italian greyhound is bred down from Greyhounds in size, as are whippets, I just want to know any other details before choosing. And for your information, Whippets and Italian greyhounds are one of the calmest and sweetest of all dogs.

The italian greyhound is much smaller and more fragile than the whippet. They are quite similar in personality, as they are closely related. It all depends what you're looking for in a dog.

    Italian Greyhound Whippet

In my experience, Italian Greyhounds are very dainty and delicate looking. They are a toy breed and are the bred down version of the Greyhound. I am not an expert on Whippets, but I think the similarities are limited to looks because the Whippet owners I have talked to told me they are much different. Both are great dogs, the Whippet is a little more durable but either one would be a great choice!

IG's are MUCH smaller than Whippets :) They're a bit bigger than Miniature Pinchers ^^

My friend bred Whippets and they were always sweet dogs but needed a TON of exercise! Italian Greyhounds are just small..adorable little dainty things that always seem to want to be held lol. Love them! :)

From what I have heard, Whippets are not that calm. Much more energetic than the Greyhound, which is the breed I know the most about. Also from what I have heard, the iggies are pretty fragile, as in, normal every day stuff can break their legs.

My wife and I have owned (or been owned by ) an IG for almost 4 years. I don't

know about the other hounds but, once ours became one year old he really

calmed down. He is big for the breed , hence never bound to be a champion.

He has proven to been rugged guy and likes to rough house. We have trained

him to do therapy work and is amazing.I just wish we had a second IG to run

with him. I know very little about whippets so I can not judge them.I do highly

recommend this breed for anyone . Just make sure that your bed is big enough

for a new addition. John/Sandy- Columbus , Ohio

I go by size. Whippets are quite a bit larger than an IG. Greyhounds are the largest.
