  • Benefits of having two dogs?

    Sorry need to filter-

I have a 8 month old beagle that gets bored VERY easily and has started pulling clothes off the line. She had actually had enough time to chew a perfect circle through chicken wire to get to our chickens scraps. My mum and dad were considering getting another dog after speaking to a lady that told us the benefits (with two labradoodles) My dad said to look up dog breeds that would be suitable to accompany our female beagle. I came up with some but after I discussed it with them they seemed a bit put off. I persisted though and after finding the perfect dog that needs re homing, they decided that they were COMPLETELY against the idea! They come up with weak excuses such as "what happens when we go over seas" Wouldn't she be better of with company when shes being dog sitted anyway?

Heres the dog I found from a rehoming group-

We have a beautiful young boy available to the right home.

The ideal home will have at least one other dog and no cats,as he loves the company and gets on very well with all dogs. He does however chase cats as he has not lived with them before, and is used to running after bunnies.

He has a beautiful nature and is a friendly outgoing Brittany that has been well socialized and trained. He has completed basic training in Agility and Obedience, and would be ideally suited to people into this sport.

Brittany's are family dogs so a home where he will be loved and cared for as one of the family is the only home we will consider.

He will be de-sexed prior to going to his new home, and fully vacinated.

I rang them and asked a few questions- He is being rehomed because a three year old abused him and broke his leg, the parents decided that they didn't want him because he wouldn't play with the son anymore and it was the reason they bought him. The people rehoming him dont want to make a profit out of him as they are trying to give him a home (along with other dogs they foster) He is nine months old (same age as our beagle Pippa)

He is perfect for us, we walk our beagle everyday and let her off at a feild around the block and to a dog beach on weekends. I don't understand why my parents don't want another dog. We work and go to school 8 hours a day and she gets so bored. I feel so bad for her. Do you have any ideas of how I can persuade my parents? Thanks in advance!

  • A breed of dog that will get along with a Beagle?

We are thinking of getting a second dog to keep the company of our 6 month old Beagle. She gets so bored during the day, and since we're going back to work and school, we thought it might be good to consider the idea. Our Beagle (Pippa) is great with other dogs- but she can be perceived as annoying to older dogs that simply don't have as much energy as her; She just wants to play all day! We don't want another Beagle (They'll probably plan an escape together- haha) but want a dog similar in size. It must get along with kids and be able to keep up with Pippa as she is so full of energy. We want as low maintenance as possible and hopefully not known for too many problems (e.g: barking excessively, digging, destructiveness) and must be suited to staying outside most of the time.

Do you have any suggestions on a breed that suits these needs (I know it's a big ask) Or have any tips if we decided to look into shelters? Thank you so much in advance!

  • How should I go about teaching my puppy to swim?

I have a 4 month old beagle puppy and want to teach her how to swim. My friend said that they have a natural instinct and you could put them straight in the water and they will automatically know how to swim. But I don't want her to have a bad experience and make her hydrophobic as this will be her first time swimming. I have planed to go to this jetty that has a grate at the end where the water comes to your ankles and the water is extremely calm. I want to introduce swimming slowly to her because she is already afraid of the hose and baths (not sure if this will affect her reaction) and was wondering how I could do so and how to go about it. Should I get a doggie life jacket? Or will the instinct come naturally? And any other ideas to how I can introduce it to her calmly?

  • Aggressive beagle puppy?

My 3 month old beagle puppy is very aggressive and dominant. She has made us bleed many times from aggressive biting. We are in the middle of 4 weekly puppy training courses which are great. When she attacked our trainer - Biting viciously, growling aggressively (as she does with me and family) he calmed her down by pinning her to the ground by her chest until she stopped. This is the only way to calm her and it usually doesn't work for our family when we try the method. We have tried holding her muzzle, holding her lower jaw under her tongue, locking her up for short periods, saying "NO" firmly and picking her up- all in which make her more aggressive (some more unsurprisingly than others.) The trainer told other puppy owners that this wasn't necessary for them to do this to there puppies as they are not aggressive. He told us that our puppy was one of the 1% that are this dominant towards there owners- he also said that if she wasn't taught in 6 months we would be re-homing her. I love my puppy allot and have become attached to her. What methods can we try to stop the aggressiveness? Please help!

Also, this is NOT play biting. She is extremely aggressive and dominant. She is great with other dogs, if anything timid around them. When she is calm she is a beautiful beagle in which I can play and hug. She is fed Supercoat puppy (recommended by vet and trainer.)
