Why did they do that? From what I can tell Charter is a ISP, so I'm guessing they hooked up a Modem and not a router to the internet. How were you getting internet before? There has to be some source of the internet it can't come "from the computer" routers typically accept signals either from the a modem or wirelessly if they are acting as a bridge. A computer can't supply wifi.

If they hooked up a modem and that is now connected to the back of your computer you would take the cable that plugs into the back of the computer and plug it into the router then take another cable from the router to the back of the computer and everything would be hooked up.

I've never heard of an ISP supplying a router before, only modems, so maybe I'm wrong in thinking your're confused and it really IS a router.

If so is it a wireless router? There are routers that are not wireless.

Why don't you just hook your router back up if everything was working okay? Is it broken?

If it's a different router there will probably be a different network name, did you scan for networks and see if any were in range? It's possible that their router is password protected and you'll have to contact them to figure out the password if you don't have it.

    Edit:

And as others have said, especially if you're not computer savy, call them and have them come fix it. You're paying them for a service and they shouldn't be coming out and making things worse.
